It has been a long time since I purchased A tank. First the cost was way more thin I thought. Second the pressure was 170 lbs on a new tank. This seems low. Outside dimensions are 7" X 24". It's either a small or medium tank. Cost was $ 46.00. What should a new tank have for pressure? Thank you for your time Terry
No way, that is for the gas only. I just called yesterday because my Son has been using mine and since he has a new set of torches he wants to get his own set of tanks too. The number 4 size are about $600 for both tanks and the smaller ones (90 cf ox and 75 acet) are $ 400. Those come filled the first time. He had gone to Northern Tool pricing tanks and when he told me $ 600 I said that can't be right, so I called a local gas supply house I use and they told me the same thing. I think I paid $ 300 for my large bottles the first time about 20 years ago. That 170 is not the pressure, it is the cu ft of gas in the tank. 7 x 24 is a small tank. Mine are about 9 in diameter and over 4 ft tall. Don
I lease B size oxgen, acetelyne and CO2 cylinders for $133 per year. The gas cost /refill/ exchange empty cyl. for oxgen was $24, Co2 $30.80 and acetelyne I think was like $34 (lost my invoice). refilled all 3 cyls. in the the last 3 months or so. I supose after 5/ 6 years of rental it adds up to the price of new bottles. But I could not afford $ 600 up front costs.
I don't buy new on tanks, mostly because it's either too expensive or they want you to lease the tanks. A certain list, going by the name Craig, has helped me out. Got two full-size oxy and an acetylene tank for $300. Plus some torches and hose and whatnot. All I've ever had to pay for since was gas refills.
You guys are talking bottle price PLUS demurage costs. To just exchange a medium sized acetylene bottle for a full one should only cost about $17.50/ $20.00.
Been watching Craigslist here for several months with no luck. Decent used bottles are HARD to find. then you lay out BIG $$ for new bottles, and guess what you get back the first time you go in to get them re-filled. Oh yea, and guess where you buy the new bottles. Honestly, the whole bottle thing is the scam of all scams. I need to start a bottle filling business.
Be careful buying used bottles. They have a test date stamped near the fill valve and the welding supply won't refill them if they are out of date. You can have them inspected and recertified but it will cost almost as much as buying a new bottle. Since I bought a Plasma cutter I don't use the torch much at all.
i sell airgas and the Ac4 (large acetalyne) goes for 106 ish...the small portable tanks(mc) acetalyne are in the 40 dollar range.
The gas supply place here charges an extra 60 per tank to pressure test them when they are out of date...
Um, hows that work? i just trade them in, out here, and they never look at them, couldnt i have the risk of them giving me a tank that is almost out of date too??
Acetylene pressure on a filled tank is relatively low as the gas is delivered below 15 psi or it explodes.
I just exchanged my large acetyline tank . It lasted 4 years. $379.86 at amerigas. I about sh!t. But I needed it. WHEW!!!! I dam sure make sure I don't leave it on when I set torch down I close the valves.
Yep, just had a medium acetylene tank filled here is Southern Maryland the other day. $ 45.00 O2 was $18.00. These tanks are waste high. I don't remember what the bottles cost years ago, they are on exchange, so, I just pay for refills. Dates aren't a problem because they are being exchanged. The pressure varies with temp. But sometimes I've been shorted and got bottles that were half full.
That 170 is not the pressure, it is the cu ft of gas in the tank. 7 x 24 is a small tank. Mine are about 9 in diameter and over 4 ft tall. Don[/QUOTE] 170 is pressure Gage reeding. I stooped at the suppler today they are replacing with another tank. Said pressure should be 300 lbs.
