Have an acquaintance in the neighborhood with 2 of them....one a 460 +.030. The other one is a 514/aluminum heads/aftermarket everything.....BIG $$$$$$$$$. More so (obviously) for the 514. Both run pretty good. The 460/blower/carb'd is decidedly more streetable, but still, marginal......The 514 in a 2200# Willys pickup is in the mid 9's with a 5500 rpm limit.....way more there than he's using. It's for sure not like building a 350 Chevy................hope for a Powerball win or good night at the casino if you really want one.............
You are welcome to stop by my place and have a look at both, an injection manifold and a blower manifold.
BDS also sells a 6-71 blower intake for the 385 series Fords. Blue Thunder also sells an intake that will fit either Hilborn injection, or Webers.
First of all if your a Chevy guy I'm not ever going to convince you of anything. My advice to Chevy guys is keep building them Chevy's I live in So Cal & always hit both the Long Beach & Pomona swap meets. I buy lots of SBC parts there as that's a big part of my business. When I find 385 Ford parts they are mostly new and most often much cheaper, I guess the seller doesn't expect to sell the Ford stuff so he is just dumping it. Ebay is another great source, as well as right here on the Hamb. I have bought some real nice parts right here at unbelievable prices. Right now I have 9 steel billet roller cams for the Ford and there isn't over $100 in any of them. As everyone already knows at a pick & pull, all motors cost the same. All you need to know is what to look for. Many years ago I built a little Bantam altered out of mostly scrap. I bought a 460 & C6 from a guy that had 125,000 miles on it. I had the cam reground and did a ring and bearing job on it & put a shift kit in the C6. A swap meet manifold and a used 3310 Holley, I even used the wires and spark plugs & point dist that was in the motor. The rear 9" had a 390 gear (junk Yard) and the stock converter. On pump leaded it ran 10.50's all day long at 137. Under $500 total cost on the motor and trans.
I have an idea of building a comp roadster. But I wanted to think outside the box and run a supercharger or injected BBF. That's why I'm asking.
I ran a .030 over 460 in my Vega at Bonneville and it went 197 on gas. Had about $1100 in the engine. This was in about '90 give or take a year. I guess prices have gone up a lot since then.
When i built 'Psycho' (i think the fiat body came from rich, the post above this one) it had a blown 460 and Don Hampton made the intake for it. The blower belt was many feet i remember that, it had a 14-71 littlefield and enderlie hat and had reliable 1800hp, maybe the 'c' head? and there was no commercially avaiable intake for it. I can also tell you with a certanty that it cost more than a sbc to build.
