this is one of those learn the hard way questions....what is the minimum clearance for exhaust pipes and painted surfaces...i frenched the front fenders past the front tire with 3.5 pipe and have 2.5 pipe runnin through it, just wunderin if im gonna smoke the paint...whenever i get around to painting that is.....P.S. so the pipe comes out the fender then down and along the rocker... true lakes....i know i know.......the reason why... i saw it on one of Bo Huff's cars a while back and it stuck with me forever.. so i just went for it
only thing i could suggest would be "header wrap" or some other heat shield wrapped around the exhaust pipe. got any pics? sounds pretty cool. -jim
Not sure on the clearance required, but you could put a ceramic coating on the inside of the pipe and that should help keep the outside of the pipe a bit cooler. I saw that Eastwood now sells a coating in a can. http://www.eastwood.com/ew-hi-temp-internal-exhaust-coating-w-extension-tu.html
Is it the coating that saves it? Mine has 3/4" but not in finish paint yet, and won't be coated lakes.
