We got the car to were it would look re presentable for the Autorama. did not get engine running in the car yet. ran out of time(surprise). i still need to run a return line, find a location for an inline electric fuel pump, vacuum pump and other odds and ends. we'll have to take the front clip off one more time to fix some things here and there since car show is over... and i do have some other pics of what the red car looked like when bought. PACO.... These cars have so many rare parts that it wouldnt be worth taking them to the track. the silver blue belair would be the car for the track... its a real driver. These cars Belong to Mr Pat Lobb. i happen to be lucky enough to take care of these cars, maintain/restore and have fun. CH3NO2JAY.... Lobb does have other awesome cars like a 65 Coronet A990. will post pics when i get a home tonight. SledDriver.... That piece is the fuel distributor. chain driven off cam gear. and not really sure on the shroud. 61 62 348 and 409 look very similar to me. we have so many its kinda hard to tell chalkboard.... I will post some more pics tonight.
I'm hoping mine turns out HALF as nice as those two!!! Beautiful cars do you mind if I pick your brain on a couple things? Do you have anymore pics of the restos?
57ford/60thunderbird... Its a real a990 coronet. such a sweet car. its one of my favs out of Pat's collection. the aluminum thing behind the belt is part of the mechanical fuel injection. timing cover.
Where can I get a set of those aluminum fenders and hood? I'm afraid my bank account wouldnt be able to handle the trauma! You are a lucky man to have such a nice collection to look after!!
If Pat needs a 409 shroud, I may give up one of mine. Seeing how I didn't sell him my BelAir for the project.
Yes the 348 fan shroud is the same from 59-62. Used on 409 in 62. I think it was even used on 63 and then there were some changes on bolt pattern in 64. Pat does indeed have a very nice collection of cars and is also a great source of knowledge on the early 348-409 cars. Thanks for posting.
cool learn sumthing new everyday i didnt know 409s were offered with mechanical fuel injection so the red car has a aluminum front end? was/is it a factory lightweight? thats another thing i didnt know that chevy had the aluminum parts like the mopars and the pontiacs had should of known they did but never heard of them before
57ford/60thunderbird.... The mechanical fuel injection was going to be an option... but since chevy was a lil too busy with other cool stuff coming out at the time they s****ped the 409 fuel injection project. Making this one the only one in existence. The aluminum front clips were sent to racers back them, it was like "make your own "Factory lightweight" ". Its a very rare hard to find package. here a pic of Pat's black '62. This car has a complete set. chalkboard... The aluminum front clip(Fenders and hood) on the Red one were hand made.
Now you've done it! I'm building a 64 plymouth max wedge and I read this post and now I want to build a 62 chev 409 also. This habit never stops. Nice cars by the way.
I drive past the place whence they were made twice daily. And no, I don't go looking thru the weeds for some that may still be there. Well, not anymore at least. Hey Al, post a closeup of them, please.
