Ok I just bought a 53 Chevy BelAir with some really great patina and think that a set of chrome reverse wheels or smoothies would look great with wide whites and spider caps but I am trying to figure out who to buy from. I called Stockton wheel and they told more 6 or more weeks for a set, and Coker had the unilug setup that I am not very fond of.....So more or less I am asking who to use and who have you guys had good luck with?????
I called Jimmy (Wheelkid) on a Thurs for some Steelies with custom backspacing. He called me to verify my address on the following Monday to ship them out. That's two freaking business days boys! I have dealt with him several times and he has always been top notch! And I got my HAMB discount.... I imagine chrome reverse would take much more time....
ive been doing alot of research on this as well. I found a great deal on a pair used, but if I bought new it would be through wheelkid
Called Jimmy and he is one hell of a cool guy, but 150 per wheel plus spider caps and shipping is gonna cost me almost a grand!!! Might hafta paint the stockers and dress them up a bit!!!
Stockton used to sell deep OEMs but I dont see them since they changed owners ... something about smooties just dont fare well with me ... have you considered OEMs?
Dimebag be careful when you order the rear wheels on that car rear axel is a bit narrow so an off set wheel would be your best bet like a 7 inch rim 3 inch back space or less or you may get some tire rub on the inner fender in the rear. Just a heads up the 14x7 rallies rubbed they were centered and a wide trac tire..
These are not too bad, I have not found any cheaper http://www.summitracing.com/search/...d-Chevy-Style-O-E-Chrome-Wheels/?autoview=SKU
I can only tell you which brands go rusty quite quickly, even in the shed before fitting. American racing smoothies and cragar both go rusty here in 1 to 2 yrs sometimes. Some will hold out for longer. Mine were kept clean and waxed. Blame offshore chrome.
Like I said cheap wheels aren't good and good wheels are not cheap!! So I think my best bet would be to dress up what I ah e, I know they fit really well, maybe a new color and spider rings and caps...
I've been running the Wheel Vintiques for 9 years now thru Illinois winters including the last 4 Polar Bear Cruises with no rust issues at all.
Paint yer wheels body color...then fog some pearl white over the "high" spots....add some Spider caps.....done.....
Uh... I've got a show truck with NO front wheels. Ordered from Wheelkid almost 2 YEARS AGO. Custom reversed rears are INCREDIBLY NICE; HOWEVER, reversed '40 Ford fronts showed up with a MAJOR kink in the bead seat and chrome peeling off near the center. Sent them back. Waited A YEAR. Replacements (free of charge) arrived with major chrome flaking around the center again. Sent them back about 6 months ago. STILL WAITING... Obviously, Wheelkid is very busy so be prepared to wait and put no faith in any date given for completion. If you do get wheels from Wheelkid, CAREFULLY inspect all chrome work.
Try The Wheelsmith.thewheelsmith.net.WE polish and plate all the way down to the lugs. They look great and fast delivery to.
Raylle America and Wheelkid do a great job, the chrome is really nice. Cat piss will take off the chrome though.
