I have a 2003 Chevy Express 3500 (1 ton) van that has 8 lug 16 inch rims (not split rims). Maybe rims like that would work. Pretty sure the 1 ton Chevy pick-ups used them as well. A trip to your local pick & pull might be worth the time.
Most 8 lug rims will fit, but you have to watch out for the offset, so the rim doesn't hit the tie rods on the front. Try finding some from a Ford 3/4 ton truck from the 1980s, they seem to fit the early chevys better than the same era chevy wheels.
Later Eight lug wheels that aren't split rims are pretty easy to find. You should be able to get rims off a mid 70's truck to work. you won't be able to run the early caps though.
Yup....Ford and Dodge have a bigger hole than Chevy, so ford wheels fit chevys, chevy wheels don't always fit fords
Check out Dodge and Ford 3/4 and 1 ton vans. As mentioned the back space is critical. Also, changing to a 1 ton tie rod and ends will give you more clearance for back space.
I have been told that the newer ford 8 lug wheels bolt pattern are not the same as the early ones, they are off slightly, mm size, instead of 6.5 inch. is this true ?
well i did measure the wheel opening and i need 5inch to go over the hubs. BUt i think i just scored some 16inch 8 lug non-split rim off craigslist, dude says theyre off his 49 AD chevy
I have one 8 lug wheel off an 80s ford truck. I think it's pretty tight at the tie rod end...but you can try it if you want
thanks squirrel. i found a guy in Vail that has some rims, see what happens with that. also my uncle works at a junk yard around here and i might borrow a few rims off him and try them out. good to see a fellow vista rodder on here
Hmmmm.... I passed on a good deal on some M/T classics. They came off a 99 ford. was gonna use them on a 85 chev. single wheel 1 ton crewcab. But I was told they wouldn't fit.
we have been very successful running brand new trailer wheels on both eight and six lug Chevy hubs. A bit of pre-purchase measurement is required, but you can usually find what you desire. they are reasonable and can be purchased in white, grey or black. there are not provisions for small hubcaps, but we typically run chrome lug nuts and beauty rings. and we found a radial tire that has a tread pattern that looks somewhat vintage. They are 215/85/16, so skinny and tall.
Had the same problem with my 3600. Got 58-60 Ford 16" rims From the local yard and they worked fine. Just haven't found any hubcaps the don't say ford to fit. Just painted them black an used beauty rings and chrome lugnuts. Looks Good to me.
this is all good info. i was lookin at my dads 27 foot trailer yesterday and noticed it had 8 lug rims..... hmmm the guy got back to me on the 16inch non split rims. he wants 45 a rim. so 180 for the set. that a good price?
I got a set of those trailer type chrome rims with junk tires for $50, and another set with half decent tires for $300. I also got one ford 8 lug wheel for free, it has an old tire on it that is probably useable until it blows up.
