  2. I would choose the '40 if I were in your place. I'm a big man, '6' 5" 260#, so the '40 would be more comfortable for me on a long drive. The '40 is more aerodynamic and you will have less wind noise at highway speeds. The '40 windshield is tilted back a little while the '32 is straight up and down--this is a big issue driving at night as the headlights of a car behind you on a straight up and down windshield gives a lot of glare. The angle of the '40 windshield helps this problem a lot. It all comes down to things like how solid is the '40 body, do you enjoy building cars as much as driving them or do you mostly enjoy driving them, which one do you like the best? I know what I would do, but that is not necessarily what you should do.

  3. Here's my take: if what you really want is a '40 then get one - either this one (if the trade is a good deal) or another, whether through trading or selling yours and buying the "right" one.

I can almost completely relate - I currently do not have a running, jump-in-and-drive hot rod in the stable. I have a '32 Tudor project that wasn't my dream car but was, I thought, a good deal at the time and maybe an investment towards getting what I really want. I can't seem to drum up much interest in my '32 at a price where I'd break even, let alone make anything. I'd currently be very happy to trade for a running, driving, almost complete hot rod for mine as I'm not in love with it.

Judging from this, my answer would be yes, do the trade. Earlier you stated that you have been looking for a 40 for a while, so you obviously want one. You have no concrete plans for the 32, so obviously you're not too interested.

Other's seem to be comparing dollar value, but I put more value in enjoyment myself, and to me, a car that is AN iconic hotrod, and a driver is worth more than THE iconic hotrod that is a long term project....

My Mom always told me this "If you can't decide it's best to do nothing." If it was stolen or destroyed, which would make you sadder?

    I'd keep the '32, but then I'm a little partial.
If you do keep the 5-window.....looks like you got your hands full.
All it takes is buckets of money and lots of time.:D
Good Luck with whatever path you take.

Well since you did'nt ask what what "YOU" should do...you're heading asks what would I would do. I would'nt trade, not in a million years. But hey, that's me and that's what you asked. But then again, only you can decide what's right for you. Good luck on your decision!

personally,I would trade,Unless its a status thing that says" I have a deuce coupe"They dont do much for me,personally a 30 31 full fendered model A does the same thing.A 40 coupe is a real badass looking coupe, with more room, practicality, options for drivetrain/horsepower possibilities, and nothin else compares to its looks.may not be the same money, apples to apples, but by the time yours is on the road, youve lost a lot of time enjoying a hotrod.I do know this from experience.I have three half finished nice cars, and would trade any two for a nice driving 40.

Do the deal. Forty coupes are great riding cars and much nicer to drive down the road. "Just Do It!"

  13. Louie Trade him for the 40. Then throw one of those two dashes you have in and sell me the other. Sounds like a plan?

If you could get a decent firewall for the '32 then I'd say keep it... Oh wait... :) Do you need a steering wheel so you can sit in the 5w body and go "vroom, vroom"? :D

Don't you have a big, roomy '40 Ford type car?

That's enough smiley faces for me for one day.
Now get off your ass. LOL (Yea, like I should talk)

Just another thought... I wanted a 40 coupe and a rodder friend told me to go to Louisville to the Nats. and look around. I was undecided when I got there about the car I wanted. Had it narrowed down to two models. The place held more 40 fords than you could put in a Wal Mart parking lot. Seemed like either everybody had one or wanted one. I don't believe you will find too many 32 5ws at any size meet, not Henry steel ones anyway. I would hang on to it myself.

  16. when you gonna post up some pics of the forty? that way you get a more informed NO like , Hell No , Fuck No , Are you on dope No! ETC!!

"Life's short - drive a hot rod". First how much is it going to cost to complete the '32? Second how long is it really going to take to complete the '32? Third a '40 coupe is a far more comfortable spacious car to drive than a '32. You could be driving now or still dreaming in 10-15 years time. But then again I don't like '32 Fords, never have and never will so I am biased....

  18. Being that you are looking for a 40 in particular and you already own a 32 roadster, I would jump on the 40.
Iwoud also think about making that trade myself for the 40 I own for your 32, but my better half would probably never speak to me again. Remember, the grass is always greener on the other side of the street.

Weasel, thank you. I thought it was just me. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that treat you like you should be in a rubber room for not wanting a 32.;)

  21. I sure am glad I/We dont have this prob!! We have 2 & 1/2 Deuces and 4 40s, which most of them run and drive. Would not let any of them go. Wife can deal with that after I'm in "HOT ROD & DRAG STRIP HEAVEN"!! LOL

I see a lot more Deuces at shows and cruises than '40s. It's up to you, but I'd swap a basket case '32 for a running '40 any day of the week and twice on Sunday! Love the lines of the '40!

32's have really never done anything for me but on the other hand a 40 is one of Henry's most perfect body styles that is pretty hard, if not impossible, to improve upon. I'd trade that 32 in a heartbeat for the 40 coupe that you described.

I would not do it unless the 40 Guy kicked in some boot. Like about 2-3 grand.
That's IF I had correct paperwork for my 32 and he has correct paperwork for his 40.
