What style of clutch would be ideal for a 70 dart. Going to be running a 416 small block. (340 with four inch stroke). Estimated horse power between 550-600. Running a pro shifted 833 and a dana 60 with 4.88 so the question is diaphragm or borg and beck?, Do we run the chrysler over center spring on the pedal? Any other ideas?

    Neither!

Go for a "Long Style" pressure plate.

These units provide a combination of static and centrifugal pressure
Static pressure is provided by coil springs and remains constant throughout the RPM range of the motor. Additional pressure is provided by centrifugal force acting on the levers which impart this force to the pressure ring of the clutch.
Long Style clutches are available with adjustable pressures to allow precise clutch tuning

I was being led to believe that the long clutch is not an opposition with the 833 transmission. Also i should note that funds are low, so the adjustable high end clutch like the one offered by Tim Hyatt racing is it of reach... Looking in the $500-700 range,,..hopefully

Right on answer, with this set up you can allow slippage to launch, and with rpm it"locks up". On the cheap, run a B&B, best quality you can afford, look into disc material and style. Makes a big difference.

Go for the McCleod soft loc (its a long style). The money you spend now will save a bundle in broken driveline parts. I believe there is one in the classifieds right now and its in your price range.

Call Ram or Centerforce or McLoed etc and ask the experts, some things are best not asked on a forum and this is one of them.
