    Hello again!

So I have my 302 GT going into my 59 Galaxie this week. I am wondering which exhaust I should go with to get the sound I'm looking for. I'm not needing the deep growl but something more of a fiesty purr if that makes sense. She'll be my daily driver and weekend cruiser so I want it to sound good at all times.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice!!

    Good Kat Matt

I was thinking of this, but wanted to hear other opinions.

I want people to turn their heads when they hear her and I know this does that.

We shall see. I will be purchasing this next week. So its coming down to the wire!!

I love the sound of Cherry Bombs Traditions round style ! You can change the sound depending on if you mount the muffler at the back of the car or close to the engine . The short ones are the loudest but the longs ones have a good growl until you stand on the gas !

  7. Daily drivers should have a cross-over, in my opinion. Cuts down on the interior resonance, makes long trips easier. Quieter and mellower.

Agree, I've done 2k trips and 'the sound' will get tiring real fast, I'm a dd only vehicle driver now with an 'x-pipe'.

Besides the obvious, what is the exact difference in sound between an x-pipe and h-pipe?
I've been recommended to use h-pipes too.

    Just curious......

I have an HO 302 in my F100 with Flowtech Afterburners and am very pleased with the mellow exhaust tone. No H or crossover. Hate the Flowmaster Hushpowers I have on my 40.

Truer words have rarely been spoken.

I like 2" or smaller pipes with either turbo style mufflers or gl***pack style mufflers for that rappin sound....unless its a muscle car.

It's true. The right muffler can surely make the car.

  15. when ever a thread like this comes up, I always recommend jaguar pre-mufflers, they are only about 8" long I wouldn't recommend them on something that needs lots of flow, but for a normal street engine they work great, and the sound cant be beat from them, I found mine under a 79 XJS coupe, they have an awesome sound under load, and don't drone. the best ones have the british leyland swirlie on them.

So do you like strawberry, vanilla, ****er pecan or cherry vanilla?

I owned a muffler shop for over 25 tears and it's impossible to match a muffler to a sound in someone's head. Everybody's idea of the ideal sound will be different.

I know that there will be guys that swear that they can identify the difference in brands of gl***packs strictly by the sound but I never could. I know steel packs are different. I bought the cheap generic ones that my warehouse sold and everybody was satisfied.

The best thing to do is to go to a show and stop a car that you like the sound of and ask them what they used.

Some people like Flowmasters and others don't. Find out what flavor matches that sound in your head. I could never find that iconic flathead sound until a customer insisted on 1 3/4" tail pipes...bingo there it was. The gl***pack did not matter. It was the size of the tail pipe that made the difference.

I did discover that over sized tail pipes seem to reduce the sounds. I like to use 2 1/4 for most late model overheads for the street. Of course most of the young guys wanted 3" on an engine that rarely gets over 5000 RPM.

Thank you for all the opinions and advice. I get it hard to know exactly what to find, especially online. But I wanted to get opinions of those who have had the experience of different types and what they thought. This has given a lot of insight on what I may need/want. We are dropping in the 302 possibly as early as tonight and setting up the exhaust this weekend. I really like the sound of the gl*** pack and may end up with it. but we shall see.....I will keep you all posted and post some pics once she's all done!!
