OK, got a 460 engine, and mocked it up in the 56 Ford PU. Cordoba front end. Definately oil pan problems. Is there a commonly available pan (rear sump) and pickup to buy to make the swap easier? Are headers. or exhaust manifilds a problem?

Did you buy the cordoba and install it or was it there already ? The 429-460 does have a rear sump and pick up swap .I do feel you should s**** the cordoba front you will be much happier in the long run .Fenderwell headers will be the trick set up .stock manifolds w/ that front end will be tight all around . what mounts are you using ?? that is one deep engine bay , maybe raise the mounts ?Another hint if your using a newer 460 , swap out the cam and gears wakes them right up . If you could post pics i bet more could help ya !

I put a 390 in my 51 and I have a MII clip in it. I had to buy a rear sump pan for it. They make one for the FE's that went in 4X4 pickups. Not positive on the 460, but I bet there is a rear sump out there. I actually found mine on ebay and got a decent deal on it. I had to look around for about a month to find it though.

I could not find any headers out there that I did not have to move tubes on. You might want to just get ready to have to customize headers if you run them. I got lucky and found some a buddy had and just had to move a couple tubes on the drivers side to clear the steering and one tube on the p***enger side to clear the motor mount.

The truck already had the Chrysler front end installed. Original plans, and mounts were also there for a 351. After dis***embling the truck, my friend had the ch***is powder coated. So I am trying to avoid cutting and welding the frame to make the larger engine work! There are "platforms" for a biscuit type motor mount for the 351. It looks like I could easily fab a mount off the 460 engine to go to the 351 mounts. There's only about 7" of clearance between the crossmember, and the center link for a rear sump to go. I could easily raise the engine a bit, but not enough for the front sump that is on the engine now.

I searched Milodon, and Moroso for oil pans, and measurements for them, but wasn't very successful.
I'm pretty good with sheet metal fab, so I could cut and weld up the original pan to fit, but if I charge by the hour, it's cheaper for him to buy one. Same with headers.

Mine was something like $100 to $110. It was an used factory oilpan. It was still really close with the rear sump. I cut out and rebuilt the firewall and ****** tunnel anyway, so it worked out pretty good with the rear sump pan. I did look at some aftermarket pans that were nice, but quite a bit higher if I remember right.

*Edit, I went back and looked and my rear sump was $80 I got. still kind of high, but it was already all cleaned up and painted and I did not have to pull it out of a car at the junkyard so that was nice. It sounds like you should be able to find one fairly easily though.

:) The best place you might find a rear sump oil pan is the newer Econoline vans. They are rear sump. Be sure to get the oil pump pick up also. It will be some hard work to get one out of wrecking yard but it should solve your problem. The one i used for my '41 Ford coupe was a 351 W out of a early to mid 80's van. Dave

4x4's and vans had center sump pans, my dad got a pan for his 56 with mustang II from Ford Power Parts, also needed pickup tube.

Technically, I guess you're right, they are center sumps, but still more oriented to the rear. The "drop" for the sump starts at approx. the forward motor mount location. Tons of F series 4x4 trucks in the 70s-80s had 460s in them.

    Mark,

These headers or these headers from Sanderson look like they're what Stan needs. The second header mentions tighter bends for increased steering box clearence, so they might be the ticket. $285 plain, $435 coated...

Ford numbers for the van ch***is 460 parts:

    Oil pan P/N: E9TZ 6675-A

Oil pump pickup tube and screen P/N: E4UZ 6622-A

    Special maincap bolt P/N: D9HZ 6345-A

This from the Sept. '91 Street Rodder, page 72.

For junkyard donors, look at E350 vans with tow package, ambulances and mini motorhomes.
Or, try L&L, a company that specializes in converting 4x4 Broncos and pickups from 351/400M to 429/460. They may sell the oil system parts individually.
    Great engine, BTW. Good luck.

Yeah, do a search here on Sanderson before you drop $ on them. L&L gets my recommendation also.

Cheap motor home headers are "almost" a bolt on, think a little dent on one tube might do it..........OLDBEET

why not just put a 440 or 400 mopar in there, being a cordoba subframe, headache factor would be reduced. Plus 460's are boat anchors anyways... HAHA
