    Hey guys,

Bought a decent set of 50 pontiac sombrero hubs off a guy here, but need some input on mounting them. On the back of the hubcap, there are three rectuangular mounting slots. What all year of cars will I find this style rim on? I recall seeing some clips on the wheels of the 54 chevy I have in storage, but dont remember the details that well.

Any ideas what else they might fit, or am i going to have to source 50 pontiac rims now as well?

I have a 50 Pontiac hardtop that we built as an early 50's custom, I used the stock hubcaps because they look so cool, when I got the hubcaps the previous owner mounted them to a set of 15 inch trim rings, seems to work well. I hope this helps!

Subscribed... I have these as well and don't have the stock wheels on my Poncho.

  6. Pontiac and Olds used small clips on the center of the rim to hold the caps on, Pontiac kept them through '60. They're available repro as Olds parts.

If I was going to do anything else, I'd mount them to something like Chevy pickup dog dish caps (common and cheap) that fit the center nubs because then you know you won't lose them, especially running radial tires you get more rim flex and that tends to pop off full wheel covers.

Another option would be to use the holders for 80s GM car wire wheel caps, drill a hole in the cap, and use a chrome bullet with a long bolt that threads into the holder to snug it on tight.

The wire wheel holder looks like a round cup thats attatched with 3 of the lugnuts and had a stud in the middle . I would be concerned about how it would stay centered unlees it would draw the backside of the cap into the center of the wheel.

Btw my 55-56 Pontiac dogdish fit right onto my 41 wheels I had. Outside of the 41's being 16 they clips were riveted in.

Fusicks sells the clips that fits in the slots, I suppose they could be adapted to another style wheel welded on.

I used 50 pontiacs on my 41 buick, I took out the cone inside of the cap and welded trim rings to the inside of the hub caps, just like you'd do a cad sombrero, there are a few tech articles on doing cad sombreros if you search it.

I have 2 stock 50 pontiac wheels you can have, maybe putting the centers in a later (wider) rim would work for you. PM me if you need them.
