My wife and I just picked up a new project truck and my neighbor told me about this site so I thought I'd check it out. I have no immediate plans for the truck as I have a drag car to finish building but I hope to tear into it in a few years. For now I'm just going to drive it around as it sits. It's 100% original and the only new parts on it are a new fuel tank, fuel pump, hood springs, and rubber brake lines. I even found the original build sheet for the truck stuck to the stock gas tank. I've been trying to do some research on this truck to see what's up with what I thought was a backyard fabbed grille and headlight ***embly and it turns out that grille, the headlights, and bumpers were factory as part of a "fleet" option. It's a chevy spec cab with a GMC vin plate. It has the chevy "V" gauge cluster but with GMC on the gl***. I've not found a ton of info on them, but from what I have found surviving examples seem to be very rare. I was planning on hacking it up and hot rodding it since I thought that's what someone else had started doing but if it turns out to be extremely rare I may just end up restoring it. Here's a link to what I've found so far. http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0380.html I bought it and drove it home as is. All I've done to it since I bought it was added the tach, replaced the valve cover gasket and painted the valve cover, added the wood bed stake rails, and wired some back up lights. It needs new tires as it has some VERY old bias tires on it right now. It's the stock drivetrain with the GMC 270 and 3 on the tree. Anyway, looking forward to hanging out on the site. Here's a few pics. http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0380.html
Welcome from NorCal ... not really familar with them but I've heard the fleet is pretty rare, werent they also called the scotsman?
Thanks guys. I came accross one in a for sale ad listed as a scottsman but I have no idea if there was any accuracy to that statement.
Sweet *** truck! Looks like it is going to be a killer project. I love the GMC trucks. I like them better than the Chevy version.
Welcome from Concord and the Iron Lords. Great truck you have there. Come for a visit sometime. We do a shop night every Wednesday night 606 Church Street. ******Knuckles
Welcome from another Albemarle HAMBER! I think that makes 3 of us now. I will keep an eye out for your truck around town.
