I am looking for a fellow HAMBer in the Austin TX area who can bend a roll bar hoop out of mild steel for me. I can supply the material or pay you for yours. I am not looking for a freebie here, I am more than happy to pay for labor as well. Feel free to call or text me 512-354-5783. Thanks,
Bump, no one with a tube bender near Austin? Willing to pay for materials and time, will also supply the beer.
Doesn't look as if you are getting any positive ***istance. I went to a local shop here that builds late model and IMCA circle track cars. They provided the tubing and had a mandrel bender. Cost was very reasonable. Surely Austin has some shops like this. Just a suggestion. Good luck
Call Manny: Manny's Automotive <TABLE cl***="ts intrlu" width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD style="WIDTH: 28px; paddding-top: 1px" vAlign=top> <TD style="LINE-HEIGHT: 1.24; COLOR: #222" vAlign=top>1181 Airport Boulevard Austin, TX 78702 <NOBR>(512) 933-1501</NOBR></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
You want it mandrel bent, not done on the typical muffler shop bender. A mandrel will make a nice smooth bend and the muffler shop ones squeeze down and distort the bend. You have probably seen that on exhaust pipes, not what you want. It takes a while to get the measurements right and about 5 minutes to do the actual bending. Don
Yes, I need it mandrel bent. I have a hf special bender but kinks and tapers in a roll bar just isn't right in my opinion. Thanks for clearing that up Don. As far as *** goes, I had a bad experience there several years ago and have not been back. Hopefully things are different there now though. I need to get this done on a weekend which is why I haven't been hitting the local shops up. The couple that I did call just want me to drop my vehicle off and let them build me a roll cage for ungodly amounts of money. All I need is the main hoop though. Thanks for the replys guys. Just have to keep looking.
Mannys Automotive can definitely make the bend the way you want it. He's no longer on Airport though. More like Tillery and 1st Street. Sounds simple enough.
The HF bender will work. After kinking several bends with ours,I took a 1 3/4 tubing and had it bent to fit the shoe we wanted to use,in this case, 1 1/2 .We took the 1 3/4 tubing, split it sideways and spot welded it in our 1 1/2 shoe and now it bends 1 1/2 tubing fine. You could do the same thing,I guess with a 2 inch tubing for 1 3/4
why not call a Bus Garage or Truck Garage they have some Benders in there Places when I built my Race Car I went to a Bus Garage to have them Bend my Roll Bar! Just my 3.5 cents
Sorry to heaar that man. If you're ever around stop in and chat with Rocco, I can ***ure you you'll change your mind
Thanks for all of the replys guys, I'm going to get ahold of either lux or manny and see what they can do for me. If that doesnt work, ill just use threaded gas pipe!(not really, although I have seen it before)
I am willing to bet you are going to have a very hard time finding a shop equipped with a real mandrel bender (hugely expensive). It actually does not have to be a true "mandrel" bender to get a wrinkle free bend. Just find somone with a bender that bends up rollcages. I have a manual (converted to hydraulic) bender (1 5/8 and 1 3/4 dies) that makes beautiful bends.
I am Lux's partner, and if you just need a main hoop, we have a HF mandrel bender and would be glad to help you out. Email is ed@crushproof.net. Shop number is 386-9889. Manny has one too (ours used to belong to Manny). He's moving out to Elroy this weekend to set up a new shop, so if you have any problem calling his shop line, I can ask him if I can give him your cell phone number. This is an easy problem to solve, it's just not that many shops have mandrel benders around......
