We left for the Road Rocket show on Wednesday night, the wife and I had been on the road about 4 hours and all was good. Then suddenly there was a bam the tires screeched I pushed in the clutch and looked in the rearview mirror to see a hunk of metal rolling across the road and a oil mist and smoke. I have about 7,000 miles on this motor since it was rebuilt. I have overdrive in the car so I was at about 2400 RPM, and had 75 lbs of oil pressure when this all happened. Looks like a broken rod and when it spun around punched a hole. The rods had a lot of miles on them 400K, but they were reconditioned, but I think it was just metal fatique.

Hey man good talking with you too...really didn't bug me bad (about the motor)until the day of the car show then I missed not having my car there. We didn't stay long at the car show but did check out most of the cars, felt like a total rockabilly poser driving in our Saturn all weekend. Oh well my RPU should be on the road by the end of July.

390s are a dime a dozen compared to 312 blocks. I have one extra block, but my RPU has a 312 in it and it has 3 sleeved cylinder so I want to keep the extra block for it. Plus an FE is basically a bolt in for the 56.

Same thing happened to my Y block, except when the motor seized, it ripped the cam in 3 pieces too. I'll post the pics of the carnage when I get home. I like the Chrysler in there much better

I didn't realize that was your ragtop when I saw it last year. I love that car. Glad it's a fixable problem you are having and not some horrific accident or something.

Yup its mine...I love the car but it has not been a great relationship between us since I got it... The car was owned by a friend of my wife's family she rode in it when she was 7 years old. So we will never get rid of it, but some days it does piss me off:D .

Well, no one ever said keeping up a moldy oldie would be all roses...otherwise we'd all be driving disposable cars (i.e. Yugos).
I still say you should've put some scallops or a flame job on the Saturn along with some WWWs.

It was good swapping stories, laughs and Greek food with you and the Mrs.
You know if you ever need a chauffer around Indy that I won't mind toting you both in the Impala....there's enough room for certain. Talk to you soon.
