2003 cv ifs into a 1956 ford f100

want to put a 2003 Crown Vic IFS aluminum crossmember in my 56 f100.I know its wide but I want to take 4" out of the middle to shorten it.but I will need to shorten the power steering rack too. has any one done this to there ford f100. (can the power rack be shortened )? thanks for any help,james

how much different is the front end in width?

 

Try a Volare mustang 11 or aerostar van will be a lot easier.

I have a 2003 crown vic complete crossmember that I got for free so I want to use it if it doesn't cost too much to have it and the power steering rack narrowed. will look for a place that can give me a estimate on narrowing the IFS and go from there , thanks for your input, james.
the aerostar might be the way I go if its too expensive to use the crown vic

 

60" is what I was told but when I measured mine from drum surface to drum surface I got 62" thats why I wanted to take 4" out of the crown vic so it would be close to the same width

I am in the process of doing mine. As of now I dont think I am going to narrow mine...... It will fit, just have to run high offset wheels. I have some dimensions posted there.

Narrowing is fairly simple, rework end of rack. Section rack and frame. Cold bend sway bar.......

 

Consider using a rack that is already narrower, such as T-bird or Fox body Mustang.

With carefull measurements, you could narrow the CV crossmember to the width needed to prevent bumpsteer with the rack you choose.

Ford runs 17x8's with 6.25" of backspace and 45mm of offset from the factory on that front end. So this isn't an issue...........

I'm also putting a lincoln mark 8 IRS on my 1956 f100.I bought the already made adapters from Dave Held AT [URL="http://www.truck irs.com. all the info and install pics are on the web site. I changed the bolt pattern from 5 lug 4.25 to 5 lug 4.5 by changing the hub and bearing . mustang cobra hub. the cobra hub matches the crown vic
which also has the 5 lug 4.5 the lincoln mark 8 irs has a aluminum pumpkin and lower a arm . nice and clean . also matches the crown vic all alum cross member
