I just purchased rod n main bearings for my 56 312 y block engine. It wasn't stated they were gold plated or filled but they must be as expensive as they were. :D

  2. Real fun aint cheap. I bought gasets for my olds and with my discount they were still almost triple the same gaskets for my small block.

But it is real fun isn't it. :D

Parts have gotten absurd lately, gotta shop around when you can and ferret out the **** made in China and south of the border. Good old made in the USA parts are well worth the extra bucks for the quality.

A big concern with off shore parts is which mill the raw material comes from. Sub standard mill runs can result in poor rolled and structured parts.
I have seen parts formed from Russian mill flat sheets that crack like crazy along their formed edges....also, lesser quality material will have porosity which results in eventual rusting and weakness.

Lesson...don't buy car parts from off shore **** because you get what you pay for.

Look out for Ford parts from Mac's and Dennis Carpenter....A lot of their parts are off shore. When you place orders, ask where the parts are made...unless the parts you buy are not critical....go ahead! If they are critical, think twice.

    Just my opinion!

Sorry guys it is was and always will be a supply and demand business I worked for Wolverine Gear as a young fellow some of you might remember Wolverine cams later merged with Crane to eliminate compe***ion. even back then 40 plus years ago we knew what was manufactured meaning how much compe***ion we had. The older stuff we priced at least twice as much as the newer stuff that had high demand thus lots of manufacturers. We even had one timing chain thay by removing one link fit an older engine removing that link meant doubling the price.

Its getting out of hand (WAY out of hand) when a guy posts a thread about the cost of Y-block bearings, and it starts to turn into a "Chinese parts ****" rant. Yea, thats great, we get it, enough already. I was kinda figuring the guys it was aimed at would get it, and take the hint. Too subtle maybe?:D

I am going to be building a 292 for my 55 sunliner soon but will be looking at swapmeets and ebay to find the bearings and other parts needed, the only brand new parts from the parts store I will buy will be gaskets. I wont be in a hurry to get the motor finished since it has a 351 in it now,I think those parts for a 292 are a little cheaper then a 312 but someone out there has them from a old gas station or a parts store that went out of business that does not want a gold plated price.
