Got the new wheels painted and mounted the Dirt Trackers and found they ride and handle WAY better than I could ever imagine. They are a soft compound and the sidewall has alot of give, so you get kind of a cushy ride. They ride smooth as silk on the highway up to 80. I have to admit I was sceptical but now I couldn't be happier. I have to admit they are not as good as the big Radials I had on in the rain when it comes to traction. It didn't take much to spin them off the line tonight coming home from a cruise nite in the rain. But I got on the freeway and cruised up to the speed limit and they felt real stable. I can't get over how much I changed the look of this car with the new wheels and tires. I just love the new look. Well there you have it, my opinion of the new repo dirt trackers on the street and in the rain. BTW, the sizes in case anyone was interested. Fronts are 500-16 on a 16x4 inch wheel Rears are 8.90-16 on a 16x6 inch wheel Thanks also to Todd and Eric of STREAMLINE for a good deal on everything and the fantastic service those guy have. They have lots of parts and are a pleasure to deal with. And they gave me Beer
Thanks for the report Rudy. After lots of conjecture as opposed to actual experiencei'm glad to hear that they are good performers. You have the ribbed fronts, right? They look really good. I think I may have to spring for a set for the track roadster pickup. Charlie
I had to post again....sorry. I'm really impressed with the way the rear tire 'fits' the fender reveal. The tire diameter is just right.
All you'll have to do then is show up at the HAMB Drags the end of August. They'll have that many miles on them by then.
Glad to see the positive feedback of this setup. I have the same set up on my sedan but have not run it yet. I love the look. I seen your car at bowling green and loved the look of it but you just made it even better. How much room do you have between your tires and the body on the rear. Mine is real close, I dont think straight driving and bumps are going to be a problem. I am only worried about going through curves with the body roll and all. Once again I love the look and am glad you are happy with them
There is acutally more room than I care for, but they don't stick out too far. I'd say there is about 2 1/2 inches between the body and the tire. Body roll is a problem when the tires are too close on 32's. The other tires I had were real close and they wore a big grove in the body. But that was due to about 20 laps around the track at the Jalopy Showdown I guess thats were a Gl*** body saved me, a Steel body may have cut the tire instead here is a pic of the wheel well. And yes they are Coker repops Johnny Fast.
What about the noise? I have those on the back of my roadster and they howl on the freeway like 4X4 tires. They're fine on surface streets and I love the look, but the noise at speed is annoying. How much air pressure are you running?
Thanks for the reply, I have 1/2" of clearance and I beleive with a 1/4" wheel spacer and some discretionary persuation I can probably gain another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. I am guessing that a total of 3/4" of clearance will be sufficient in most cases wouldn't it? I have looked at allot of fenderless cars that the tires fit close on and they have touched some where at one time or another. I think this is one of those "you have to deal with it" things. I don't want to go with a wider rear because it looks so good with the tires ****ed in. I will look you up in columbus.
Rudy... did you get the pics of the dragster collection i sent you. If so... Post em when you get the chance.... Or did you? DILLIGAF
i was wondering if you guys made it out before the rain hit. we had to stop and get some grocreys and **** on the way home (the space herpie is now a grocrey getter) but we made it home just as it started to rain so i had time to cover the car up real fast. glad to see big olds getting wet finaly this year And you all ready know i love the new look!
