I figured it would be easier to start a new thread since I've been searching since 10 this morning and still can't find an answer.. so many posts!

Anyway, my 59 F100 with a 292 has a couple of issues. One of which is that it's a hard starter.. I really got to just hold the key and let the engine crank until it starts to act like it got a bit a fuel and then pump the living shit out of the accelerator. When it catches, it's great. It runs and idles and all that jazz.

The other issue is that it seems to ride fine until about 40+ MPH. At that point, it doesn't really want to accelerate. It does, but acts like it's bogging and shortly after reaching close to 50MPH, I can smell smoke.

I figure the two may be related and was hoping for a couple of suggestions or links to threads that have discussed this.

    Thanks.

I'm sitting here drinking a beer and had an epiphany.. Could it be a grounding issue? I know that sounds crazy, but I get the CRAZIEST shock everytime I step outta the cab. The headlights don't always light up either.. whaday'all think?

Check all connections. Sounds like a fuel problem.

Transmission my not be the problem....

you may be right. I checked, no leaks that I could find, but I am running rich at idle. This thing has a 2bbl carb (2100?) and I'm confused if that could be part of the problem but I don't know which way to turn the screws to adjust the air/fuel mix..

I not being mean. But if you don't know the direction to turn the screw. You can not fix this engine problem. That adjustment is only good for the idle. As soon as you give it any throttle the jets take over. Make shure your choke is wide open. Get some help.

Sounds like your motor is tired.Pull the oil fill cap at idle(where you add the oil to the motor). Is it blowing a ton of smoke out?Rev it a little.Does it churn out the smoke(blow by)If so, you are hunting for a re-ring kit at minimum.Thick oil (stp oil treatment)will mask the problem for a bit if you need to get to work.Blow by is an accelerating proccess because it blows the oil off the cylinder walls creating rapid wear which causes more blow by.If you don't need the vehicle ring it immediately(If this is the case).

Thanks for the replies. I'm obviously grasping at straws and such. I'll research the blow by thing some more. Its not dumping a ton of smoke, btw... I really have to look for it but its there nonetheless.
