    Hi...me again! :D

    Got a little done today!

I dropped the frame onto the 40 rear end. This centers the frame to the rear end. Then I got the tape measure out and checked and double checked!

The rear end is centered and so is the ******...so clamp it down!

...so then I heated and bent the rear Bone out to the frame rail.

    Kinda matches the front bone...hum...

  6. Looks like that rim is getting awful close to your wishbones. That's one downfall of that axle you're using....perch boss is closer to the kingpins than on the model A's up to the 36.

Just something to keep in mind, if you haven't considered it yet. I donno what guys do to avoid rubber to wishbone rubbing, except modifying the wishbones or their mounting points. I don't think wheel spacers or different offset rims would be any good...because you'd be messing with geometry a bit.

Thanks for the input Dubbzilla I appreciate that!

The wishbones are not mounted under the frame yet...that will gain about 2 or 3 inches. Plus I'm running 5.00 ribbed tires in front so I should have about a 1 1/2" tire clearance...notice the operative word "should" cause I won't know until I get the tires mounted.

  8. Cool man, as long as you hit your steer stops before your tires hit the bones...you're good!

...well we went out to the junkyard to get the body off the frame! Ha! Ya right!

The body is welded solid to the frame so I gotta get it over to my shop so I can cut the hell outta it! Thank God we have a wrecker!

    ...some pics

...its hard to see but the body is welded solid all along the frame rail...SH*T! @#$%^&*

I did get the steering wheel though! Its in prime condition! :D

...and I stole a radiator from my brother for a mock up! :D
I think I can take about 2" out of the grill shell and still get to the radiator cap...once again I wont know how much to chop it until I get the body here!

So I went to the junk yard today...Ha that sounds like an opening line for a comedian! :D

Well anyway it was pretty funny!

I got the rear tires on just fine...but the driver side rubbed the body. I picked it up with the wrecker and the rear would not turn! It was seized!

So I drug it to my Uncles shop (just down the hill...1/8 mile)

I looked at the frame closer and it looks like they welded the frame to the top of the floor. ??? How? Well it doesn't matter...I got to fill the oxygen bottle tomorrow and get that friggin body off the frame!

PS: I forgot the camera so no pics till I get the body off!

More to follow...bare with me this could take a while! :D

Just read this whole thread. Awesome build. A couple thoughts I might add. Don't knotch for the front spring till the ch***is is fully loaded and as far as the tires hitting the bones, same thing. Wait till the frame is loaded. If you find there is a problem, you can add a disc to the detent in the spindle for the axel bolt stop. It'll give you a larger turning radius but thats what we live with.

That was the typical way for a backyard rodder to channel a body. I think it was in an old Car Craft where it showed Barris channeling a Deuce roadster. He basically transfered the body mounting holes from the top rail to the bottom one. He then bobbed the rails and slid the frame into the body from the rear over the floor.

That is exactly what they did, but instead of bolting the frame to the floor these *******s welded the piss out of it! Welds and plate steel everywhere!

All I can say is Rackin Frackin Frickin Frackers! Pardon my french:D

Loving the initial artwork and design for the project. Can't fault the choice of power plant either and the fact you're looking to use an originally rodded body from the late 50's/early 60's.

Have to ask if you're planning on using the torque tube, if so why have you split the rear wishbones? That can't be right surely? Those bones should go back to the torque tube once you've shortened it.

Keep going, it will look stunning when you're all done.

The rear wishbones are only split for esthetic's looks only. I plan on drilling "Speed holes"in the rear bones!

Don't give up on that axle, they can be straightened cold in a press.

Probably turning it too fast. And trying to cut too fast. Gotta slow down and lube up.

I finally got the body to my house...geesh...that took to long! But it is finally here, so I can start cutting the frame off the body!

I cut the piss out of the frame and popped some fibergl*** off!

Little rant here: The sumbich that built this POS welded plate steel upon plate steel...and if that was not good enough he welded more on bottom...K I'm done! :D He must have had stock in welding rod! Ha!

The only visible rust through was behind the drivers door...oh and they covered that with fibergl***!

I peeled off some fibergl***...well it almost fell off on its own!

Just went through this whole build and I can say that I am impressed with what you have done sofar. I like most of your ideas and most of all your aproach to the jobs at hand. This reminds me of very old school. The way we use to do it back in the 50's & 60's for sure.
Only thing is I don't know when the last time you were in Grand Island Nebraska. But they must have moved it a little east. As 100 miles from SB is a little short.
If I get out your way I will hook up with you as I would like to see this project in person. Keep up the great work....
