Kenz & Leslie also ran a 427 FE powered rail, don't have pics of it edit to add that that pic looks like it was taken in England by the dress of spectators and in the backround a car with right hand steering wheel
I ran a 428cj in a front motored dragster back in the 70s.....the early days of bracket racing....won a lot of races
I would love to see a build thread on it. Of course Mickey's chassis wouldn't pass tech any more, but it is a very clean looking car. A 6-71 sitting on top of a cheap junkyard block 390 running on a bit of alky or even a little nitro could be a load of fun. Good Luck And a couple more shots of the car to keep the thread going.
The SOHC was released in late 1964, primarily to NASCAR teams. Kallitta was the first drag racer to get one, and it wasn't until well into '65 (after the NASCAR ban) that it found a home with more drag racers. By the 1966 Winternationals, Prudhomme had been the first into the 6's with the SOHC powered Super Snake, and the wedge head 427 was completely irrelevant in top fuel. The 427 wedge, however, was quite successful in super stock with the Thunderbolts. Hopefully some one else will chime in with a few pics of other FE wedge powered rails. I would also love to see pics of Earl Canavan's "President Lincoln" AA fueler, which ran around in 1964 and was powered by a 540" MEL .
Ted Cyr's MEL powered rail is pretty cool as well. The pump and distributor drive on that thing is wild.
Wayne: Always thought the commuter was cool.... http://www.bluebird-electric.net/tony_densham_commuter.htm
the lincoln drivin by ted cyr is a 430 mel not an fe similar but not a fe and there were a bunch of those in the late 50s early 60s
i have a chassis just like that ted cyr car its never been run or assembled any one looking for one its a 100 in wb realy nice find
any and all photos and info would be great..we are in the middle of a 200" fd build...slingshot chassis and my 431 blown/injected fe with a glide. heres the engine we will use and the car should be off the jig and picked up by mid march, thats what we were told.. its going to be a mix of new and old ideas and would love detailed picks of ford powers late 60s fd dragsters for ideas of fab pieces..plan to have roo-man of brownsburg in do the body out of alum and only run a small front nose leaving the mid fram just foward of the engine open with old style round fule tank as pete robbinsons ride had..thanks for your help jeff leeke sr
Saw an AA Fueler in Calgary at Shepard Raceways ...... it was called 'The Leapin' Lincoln' ..... was announced as 555 cubic inch. It had come up from the U.S., but they couldn't get it to run right. Later saw the same rail in one of those Annette Funichelo/Franki Avalon movies. Also saw a Thunderbolt run at Shepard ..... 'Bull Durham'. And sadly, also the crash of Paul Linderman, an Alberta racer. ..... FX Dodge. This was the era when the FX cars were campaigning throughout Canada. Chevrolet was not really competative with the 409's .... fond memories.
is there a good place on the web or book to get to look at alot of photos and read specs about these old front engine dragsters form around 69-70?? please share if ya dont mind..need all the ideas we can get to sort through to finish this build the way we want too..thanks jeff
I'd be interested in how you plan on putting a glide behind a FE. We looked into that with the Falcon A/FX we're getting started on and found a lack of bellhousings or adapters.
