I'd like to run drag blocks on my wagon once the air ride is in & running. I found a company in Montreal that sells ***anium blocks but they are mounted on angle iron which is supposed to be bolted to your frame but isn't the safest way to fly. I was wondering if anyone made like a spring perch so that the blocks have a little play and you don't risk spinning the car at higher speeds but still have strength and won't break off. I'm trying to figure out a way to maybe use a few rings from a cut coil to mount them. I don't want them to be visible but i also want them past the gas tank.

I just purchased these same blocks, but they havent arrived yet. i was planning on attaching them straight the my frame with some reinforcements. im a lil worried about hittin a hole or something and having the twist my frame, but i dont know how good theyd work mounted on a spring. if its to flimsy they wont heat up and spark which would be a waste of 100$ so i dont know what to tell ya, but good luck as i to will need it.

When i was into lowriders i used to know a few guys running the bolt on blocks without too many problems loosing control, you just keep your finger on the switch with hyrdos. If you dragg it too hard just notch it up a hair, if you go this route with Airbags make sure you can pull out of it quick!.

I used to have a chart that had all different alloys and the color sparks that they produced, supposedly you could get Red,Green or purple..

Jason can you e-mail me that? Green sparks to match the green car would look pretty tuff-

My ex'truck has air on it and the current owner welded a plate to the bottom of the crossmember to throw sparks. Works good. When it's worn out, just weld a new one on.

i run plates welded to my bumper. before that i had blocks welded to my old spring shackels. they snapped off when i hit a pot hole. with bags its a little diffrent then hydros. i can set my car down on the ground and still have plenty of weight on the tires. when i had the old set up i had it get sketchy one time. thats cause i hit the gas when i was dragging. i like to just gun it before i drop it then let off while its on the ground.

i just have steel blocks and they make plenty of sparks sure there not as purty as some other metals but they get the job done. If your carefull about it you shouldnt have problem solid mounting them. and yes allways have your finger right on the switch. i have to around here cause i dont know when the next pot hole will pop up in front of me.

heres my car dragging with the old set up

Iv gotten a lot of "surplus" drag blocks from one of the hemi under gl*** wheel standers they are about 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 and about 3 -4" tall with a 1/2" of magnesium bolted to the "back" of the block. The Magnesium has to be be lit from another source.
Another quick, easy way of draggin is Trailer balls, throw good sparks, and when u drag em all you can go to walmart and buy more.

Nice vid of the draggin. If you wanna see some cool draggin check out
www.concretevideo.com and check out the trailer for the new dvd.

I think this is my first post, Iv been readin for a while, but I'm a minitrucker, and I shoot video for concrete video, I see draggin and im happy.

Old school rodder stuck in minitrucks,....for now :)

Also Jpkustoms outta cleveland is designing a drag block on a spring loaded so you can fully lay out still but enough pressure to drag if u let it skim.
He also has some of the nicest blocks Iv seen for lots cheaper then some of the others

One of the drawbacks to getting old is having a hard time understanding the silliness of the younger generation. I'm having real difficulty imagining Doan Spencer, the Pierson Bros., or any number of old timers participating in something that gives the general public a dim view of hot rodders. I'm sure there are those that will counter that hot rodding in general was held in low regard by the public back then but there are a lot of rodders that have devoted themselves to giving a positive view of our hobby. Oh well, 50 years from now I won't care I just hope hot rods won't be legislated off the road in the meantime. Mini-rant over.
Also there is the possibility that i've totally missed the tie- in with this subject and traditional hot rods and customs.

Fab32, i totally agree with you it has nothing really to do with traditional rods, the car is getting more of an early 70's traditional lowrider vibe- and I thought the drag blocks would be a fun little crowd pleaser when leaving or pulling into a cruise night. What about flame throwers? I don't think there where to many of those around in the early days of rodding, but it seems to be the big hit with the younger crowd today- A different spin on things is not always good, but in my case it suits the car.

    ***Edit

forgot to mention... how will a metalflaked, whitewalled, bellflower tipped 63 Bel air wagon on air dragging some ***anium blocks for a little show be a negative thing for hot rodders?
