I'm nearly ready to chose a new shifter for the 700R4 in my coupe. Does anyone have any reviews/recommendations on this company out or Oregon?
great comparison piston head!!!!! ive always been a pro gennie shifter guy and was one of there bigger shifter dealer had sales here on the hamb and gave shifters away. any way your bottom line was "quote" Conclusion The american shifter parts are all marked patent pending and it is clear who ever designed this reinvented the shifter and made it install and operate better as they one upped the lokar and gennie shifters in most cases. The shifter looks like no other shifter I ever seen before, and works pretty dame good. Ratings #1 American Shifter #2 Gennie #3 Lokar what you said is true im sure some one who worked at one of the athere companys had a BIG time influence in the building of this shifter i know first hand because hes a friend of mine thanxs alex well i start running these shifters and selling them well im still on the fence , only because i sell what we run in our cars for the most part any way
That is a pretty indepth comparison you did there on the three brands, thanks for posting that. I have owned a Lokar and liked it, but it was not perfect by any means. It took some adjusting so it wouldn't drop down into second on hard bumps and I never did get the neutral safety switch to work 100% of the time, it would start in gear sometimes. The Gennie isn't bad but I find it harder to tell which gear you are in than the Lokar. With the status of Gennie as a company being so iffy, it takes them out of the equasion pretty much. I found that the button on the stock Lokar knob is a little hard to push down sometimes, but if you add an adapter and put a large knob on it then simply putting your palm on it and shoving down releases the shifter much easier so you can change gears. At Turkey Run a vendor had both the Lokar and American Shifter side by side on transmissions, so I was able to try both of them. I ended up buying the American Shifter just because I really could feel no difference and it was $ 20 cheaper. That $ 20 wasn't all that important, but since it was so close I took a chance. It is still not installed, so I have no experience with it to report, but it is encouraging that you evaluated it and found so much in it's favor. Don
Bravo! I wish I would have found this thread first! Was looking for a review on these three shifters and ran into this thread instead: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=526167&highlight=american+shifter
I am familiar with all three brands. The quality is really good on all of them. IMHO the american shifter brand has a better design and is easier to install.
