There is a guy in town parting out a 63 impalla ss.i have a 59 biscayne.Im wondering if the frames are the same?My plan would be to get the other frame.powder coat it and start putting it together. This way i could get a newer engine in it and get air ride set up.
The 58 is by itself, 59-60 are the same, 61-64 are the same. According to Hollanders, the interchange book that all the salvage yards used
jimmied, I think (key word "think") someone here with a 59 build thread put a station wagon ch***is under a p***enger car with a perfect ... might want to read a few of them.
pm ed 59 nomad.he put a 62 frame under his wagon.will keep looking to find others thanks for your help
I've only delt with 64 and 59 frames, in the experience I've had the 59 hard top frame had was the same as the 64 hard top frame except 59 had 2 extra body mounts that can be found on a 64 vert frame, rear bumper mounts are different, and the upper trailing arm mount on a 59 frame was just a bracket on the right side instead of bridging the frame like on a 64. but as far as a body swap it should bolt up. I even used all the 64 power steering brackets and components on my 59
I did PM you with some details for the general "HAMdom", the basic frame is the same. Most of the mounts are different as is the rear. as noted by others, unless you just like a challenge, finding a 59-60 frame may be the easiest way to go.
thanks guys it was just a thought.think ill just stick with what i have.take a long winter and see how much i can get done.might be without a car for a year.
my 59 el camino is on a 62 bel air frame. the back 2 body mounts do not line up. don't know if this elky only,or all 59s. A TAPE MEASURE IS YOUR FRIEND! good luck
There's a note in the parts book about different frame manufacturers making the frames differently. It's not because of the model of car, it's because they were made by different suppliers.
don't know if you ment that for me or not. but i'm not sure about the "boxed" part. wonder if thats like a california frame one a 55-7?
not sure about body mount locations, but I do know the x frame on my buick does not have triangulated lower control arms, it actually has a radious arm going forward to tri the lowers.
From what I have read (doesnt mean its true) I think the boxed frames were specific to the convertibles and 'Elkys ... model (Impala, etc) or engine size did not play into it I guess because running a 348 usually meant just running a 3/8 gas line located away from the exhaust.
