I installed a 6v to 12v inverter, made for my positive ground system. The radio is fine if the car is sitting, not running, bit when I drive it stops and starts, but doesn't turn off like a bad ground or bad connection. New radio, not used. PLease help. Thanks.

I'd double-check the ground. It really has to be grounded good. I have one in my car and I ran a ground to frame and did another where I stuck it on the firewall. Wayne P.

The display stays lit, but it turns "off". The lights don't dim at all. Could it be the speaker?

Thanks, will try tonight. What about putting tow 6v batteries parallel? Was told that might workas well.

  9. Putting two 6 volt batteries in parallel still just gives you 6 volts. If you had two in series, then you could get 12 volts off of them, but your car would still have to run on 6 volts off of just one of them. So the extra battery you would need to get the 12 volts total would be just getting drained by your stereo.

Seems like if you want to run stuff like a stereo in there, that you might just want to convert everything over to 12 volts, and make it 12 volts negative ground like all modern cars if you can.

How do you hook up the batteries in series?

What would turning it into a 12 volt that entail? I would rather turn it to 12v. I know I would need an altenator, a reducer for the gauges, and new bulbs, what else would it need?
    Thanks.

To convert all you need is a twelve volt coil, battery, alt, or generator, a bunch of bulbs, condenser, and reducers for any guages that are electric (except the am-meter.) your old wiring will more than handle the voltatge. It can be done in just a couple hours, ad is worth the change if you are runnung modern accessories
to hook up batteries in series you connect neg, on ont to pos on the other, then pretend its just a regular battery.

Does anyone know where to fix the original 6 volt Ford radio in So Cal, close to the 15, 215, 10, 57 freeways?
