I'll be helping a friend swap a 348 into his 53 chev sedan delivery; I havent done any measuring, and have gotten some info about the sbc swap. The 348 takes up a lot of real estate; anyone done this swap that could give me the lowdown??? Thanks!!! "You and me, Toad--we'll take em all...." Pocono Drag Lodge reunion 2012--August 11, 2012!!!
I never did that on a 53, nor do I know of one here...but I did one in a 56 about 40 years ago, but I was lucky as the motor was in a 55 already. The hambers have said that on the 55/57 swap, the front edge of the oil pan sump needs reworking for tie rod clearance. What I'd do is mock it up, hang it in there to see what needs doing. bumping this back to the top, maybe more replies..
Heres one that is posted on another thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=661905&page=2
i have this setup in my 54 sedan. engine is just sitting in there right now. currently has stock suspension, but i'm planning on a mII rack in the future. seems the oil pan will hit the suspension. i got the front cradle from speedway, and the trans crossmember from waltons. i had a set of coated sanderson headers bought, sold my stock manifolds, and then figured out the headers won't work with the stock frame. so i sold the headers and bought another set of stock manifolds. might need to "m***age" the frame rails, but should be able to bolt the exaust up. will also need to run a fuel pump, because the stock pump won't clear the cradle. still in the early stages, so that's all i have for now.
