I would like to know how many of you (in states that require Front License plates) have had problems being pulled over in your hot rods/cl***ic cars for not having one, that is if you drive without one?

I have been pulled over and har***ed for my HHR SS for no front plate and there is not much area to put my plate on my 34 Plymouth so wondering if I am going to have the same problem?

I just bought vintage plates and I am still not sure where to mount the plate in the front other then off the small bumper and well it just looks hokey???

When you register it in Texas as an antique auto they only give you one plate for the rear. I don't have a plate for the front of my 55 and haven't had any problems.

I've been going without a front plate in Connecticut for years with no problems. They don't seem to bother older cars for this offense. That said .....I always carry the front plate in the car just in case.I figure I can talk my way out of a ticket if I tell the officer that it was about to fall off so I removed it for safe keeping.

Back in my younger Hoodlum days I left the plate off of the front of my 38 chevy coupe because I didnt like the ugly stock bracket on the bumper. It was an excuse to get pulled over so I kept the other plate under the seat with some wire to tie it on the grill if necessary (before zip ties). Got pulled over a few times but no ticket.

I have never run a front plate on any of my cars, new or old. The only ticket I ever got was when I worked at O'Hare Airport in Chicago, and the parking nazis at the airport ticketed my daily driver Jeep Cherokee, in the employee parking lot! It didn't have a factory front bracket either. Zip ties are your friend!

In M***achusettes I have been turned down at inspection for no front plate so I zip tie it on for a sticker and then take it off and carry it with me. I have never been stopped for not having it on....now loud exhaust...thats a whole different story!

Depends on the cops in your area. Some cops could care less, others will pull you over. Here in Wis, both plates are technically required. A lot of guys run the collector or Hobbyist plate in back and an antique year plate up front. it's a **** shhot.

We are lucky in Nebraska, one and done. Must be the year of the car but does not have to match the county in which it is used, pretty flexible for D.M.V. standads. I was so lucky that my bro hotrodroadster saved his vintage plate from his 59 Plymouth and gifted it to me for my 59 Ford Ranch Wagon. Nothin like hot rod brotherhood! ~sololobo~

State Troopers in Iowa are the only ones that seem to care if you don't run a front plate. They don't seem to care in the F100, or my work truck, but if I get the Cutl***, or the Mustang out, I get pulled over every time.

You could always use one of those street roddy electric flip down license plates and the moment you know you are going to get pulled you flip it down on a toggle switch....

I was visiting my friend in Missouri who moved out there from Arizona and he has a 71 Chevy truck all done up and real nice. Front roll pan with no license plate mounting location, so he kept the plate up on the dashboard for the just in case moments. One night we went into town and got pulled over for no front plate. The officer told him he needed to bolt the plate to the truck or he will get a ticket next time. Later when we got to his house he broke out the drill. But he told me he had been pulled over twice the week before for the same reason so he didnt mind a few holes rather than a ticket.

  18. I've been ticketed here (IL) too. As to the plate bracket, well, that's your fault, according to the state, so do NOT try that as an excuse. You'll piss off the cop and guarantee a ticket. What happened is that when the car was sold, the dealer did not install the bracket. You could try going back to the selling dealer and demanding the bracket, but if my dealer is any guide, you'll have to pay for one. In either case, I ***ure you absolutely that there was and is a bracket made by GM for that vehicle.

FWIW, our dealer always asks before installing front brackets on 370Zs and GT-Rs. I also inform them that they may be ticketed for no front plate. Some were.

I dont run a front plate on my new Dodge Challenger, I was not about to drill holes in the front bumper or hang zip ties off the grille. Cops that harr*** people for no front plate are ****s anyhow. How is no front plate on your car hurting anybody?

I have been running my '56 Panel in Colorado for 20 years- about 175,000 miles with no front plate. My coupe for 7 years. Never had a problem even though the state requires one.

    Hello All,
$50 fine here in Maryland for not displaying a front license plate!!!!!! Russ

Note: I almost forgot, Maryland only had one plate in 1955, for some reason, so this would be a exception.

Iowa motor vehicle code 321.37 states that cars 1948 and older do not need to run a front license plate but you must carry the front plate in the vehicle. I also carry a copy of the code in my car in case I am stopped.

Cops need the front plate as a target for their radar guns.

If you purchase a vehicle, new or used, from a licensed dealer in Wisconsin, that dealer has to make certain that the vehicle has a license plate attached both front and rear or it has to be towed. They used to just put a copy of the DMV receipt in the window but even then, a front license plate mount was a legal requirement for the dealer. Some vehicles that were originally sold in a State that didn't require a front plate didn't come with a mount. Some used a different bumper.

Police like to drive through parking lots at places where alcohol is consumed. They record the plate numbers and stop the vehicle if they encounter it on the road later on. From the plate number, they can find out if the operator has previous violations and sit and wait. If you don't have a front plate and the vehicle is facing out, they would have to get out and walk to the back.:D

I used to love in SD and they required two plates. I have historical plates on my Model A and Hudson and never ran the front plates. Never had any problems. Did the same thing in MT when we moved there. Matter of fact I don't run them here in Colorado either. I was pulled over once in Morrison, CO in the '29 going to PINKS ALL OUT and the cop never even looked at the front.

All vehicles in Ohio require front and rear plates. When you register a vehicle as historical you get 2 plates. When you register a year of manufacture plate to your historical vehicle you only need to display one plate on the rear. You have to carry your historical plates with you.

In the local GM factory we shipped cars with not front bracket because some required ans did not require front brackets. Ureathane front bumperd had a mount behind them to shoot the mounting bolts thru. Iv'e not been bothered here in Texas as I run a 32 dealer plate. One plate issued by the state back then. Now that option is gone because we will no longer be able to run dealer plates. They will expire in 13. Then we will have to run two plates if we want year of model antique. Here's my front plate now. No completely legal either.

up here in NH u can get a "street rod" plate, that only comes with the rear, as opposed to the antique plate u gotta run front and back. it seems to be a balance of what your trying to get away with. i run two plates so maybe they won't notice the lack of fenders or the loud pipes.
