Hey guys....Tim here. The finned '70 Camaro & Corvette valve covers. Underneath (or inside) them are rectangular boxes below the two small holes. One hole houses the PCV valve. The other hole is just routed to the air cleaner's base. But INSIDE those two rectangular boxes was once oil-drip elements, that look like a loosely weaved green scrubbing pad. Their purpose, unless I'm wrong was just to help keep oil from reaching the holes, and being sucked up to either the air cleaner or the carburetor. I've just installed a set of these valve covers and TOTALLY FORGOT to install new elements. Please be kind, but what problems will I face if I don't pull the valve covers and install those elements? It is really a life or death decision? Do I really NEED them? This is a normally aspirated 350 with an RV cam. Nothing radical. Thanks for any answers or advice. Tim

They just act as additional baffle material for the oil to land on and drip back down. I could say just see if you get any oil vapour getting out and leaking but another part of me says it's only 8 bolts pull 'em and fix it properly.
I might have posted the wrong link for the photo...try this one..... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150813038645278&l=ca3500e800
Thanks Stu....I've just installed these valve covers using a new type of FelPro gaskets that SEAL themselves when the engine gets hot. I'd almost HATE to break those new seals and have to get yet another set of them to install the baffle material elements. I know what your saying. Do it right the first time, there's no need for a second time. I have a car show coming up soon and will have to order another set of the gaskets anyway. So I might just drive it AS IS, until the new gaskets arrive, then tear it back apart.
The way I look at it Chevrolet paid the engineers back in the day to come to the conclusion that the screens are necessary.
