Sounds like sucker bait for kids trying to appease thier grandfathers love of magneto's. It's not worth it. But then your a teenager and they do what they want. Judging from your responses you wanted a couple of yes's and the whole lotta no's you got didn't do it for ya. Spend your dough on brakes and tires and stuff that will get your project around right before you start buying stuff that doesn't do a darn thing for a inliner. Just my .02. BD

you guys are being a buncha dicks.

I agree with a lot of whats being said but you guys could work on your approach a little here, cause Im sure all of you love to be berrated by total stranger because you found the holy grail of what ever you're into.

    seriously dude heres the low.

if you are gonna build a full on balls out rodders journal quality kustom then I say go for it

or a nasty full house 261 race engine,

but think about these few things before you do,

At that price its probably not going anywhere anytime soon so no need to rush, give it some thought.

also just because you have the $ doenst mean you can afford it, make sense?

like if you buy this mag then that SERIOUSLY ups the rest of your car, meaning that EVERYTHING will have to be spot on, and as some one that has a worked stovebolt I can tell you that building one is not cheap, mine is hot but still streetable and I have over 4k in it total. and if you're gonna have all that then there is chrome, paint, interior, yada yada yada...

I bought a model A coupe a while back that came with a sweet chromed front end and elected to get ride of it because if I ran that front end then I have to chrome my rear end, wish bones, wheels, steering column, ect ect...

see how this gets out of hand fast?

also remember that mags are a pain in the dick, they were made for race not for street.

so knowing that if you still want, fuck it buy it bro.

Someday there will be someone stoked that you own it.

But I can tell you from personal exp that you will eventually lick all the red off of it if its just a collectable to ya and then it will just sit a drawer somewhere until you sell it and hopefully get what you paid for it.

I have never seen one for sale and honestly I personally would buy it if given the opprotunity but then I would have to trade my daily driver for a true WAYNE set up and oh geez here we are spiraling out of control again...

    :D

Congradulations kid, you`ve got thick skin. I think he`s gonna be around here for a while. I spent $1300 on hydraulics on my car over 25 years ago when I was 17. Still on the car today and still don`t regret it. Think long and hard before a big purchase because when you`re older, the money is harder to comeby.

before you spent 1050 on that mag spend that money, find yourself a used edmunds intake, some tube headers, and if ya really want a finned valve and side cover. If you want a better spark switch it over to a petronix ignition set up that swaps into the orignal dizzy. Swap out that powerglide for a t-5 5 speed or another automatic tranny. Those would be the things to do not buying parts just cause they are cool. If i did that hell id be broke right now and my house and shed full of junk.

This. People need to lighten up. The world is not a forgiving place full of gum drops and lollipops. He asked a question and got a blunt answer. If a man can't be blunt and honest with another man, then all is lost.

Hey, '54. Get on the phone and ask Information for the number for Joe Hunt Magnetos, in Rancho Cordova, California.
Talk to Roger Gleason, the big cahuna.
Roger will tell you what a new (or reconditioned Joe Hunt Scintilla Vertex magneto) is worth, what they go for, etc.
The price ($1050) seems high...I think they are closer to $800 tops.
    Just know the market first.

  17. Good for you son. Spend your money on what makes you happy. You earned it so enjoy it. Don't be like me in the pic. Might have to click on the pic to read the fine print. Most of these guys that are bad mouthing you are just jealous. Stick with your granpa.

I'd have to say your Granpa may just be a bit delusional when it comes to "mags" and I'm really surprised he advised you to spend that kind of money for something your 6 cylinder obviously does not need...

Better yet, spend the money for some tutoring...from the "stuff" you've "written" here, you're going to need it more in the future than you will need a mag...spelling, punctuation, grammar and paragraph spacing is much more needed in high school than a mag on a lowly six...

Punctuation lessons do not come with that magneto, do they? Because then it'd be a steal.

To all the magneto experts here you CANNOT convert a 4cyl or 8cyl mag to a 6cyl!!!!!the rotating magnet has to have 6 magnets! the point rotor has to have 6 bumps and the case has to match the magnets.I understand that NONE of the 6 cyl components are being made anymore. You could convert a 12 cyl mag if you had one of those "common" parts around.Right now a new Vertex goes for $1299 and it wont come in a vertex box.

The price seems kind of steep to me but then again if you really want and like something it just depends how much you are willing to spend.

Getting your money back someday might be interesting but what the Hell if you really must have it for your collection go for it.

Just the thoughts of an old man. Jimbo
