Ok I have a 56 f-600 it has a yblock I guess its the orignal 272 . I have a 57 4bbl manidfold , exaust manifolds for dual. I know the truck doesn't need it but I wanna put a 4 bbl on it. Gonna use a 57 and later distrbutor . I am gonna put chrome valve covers on it with the thunder bird special V8 decals on em. Here is the question I have a autolite 4100 with a new kit ( got 3 carbs and a new kit from a buddy ) it is the 1.12 ventari one not the 1.08 . I have seen the cfm rating for the 1.12 anywhere between 520 - 600 cfm . I would guess its more in the 520 _ 540 range. As far as I can tell I'm only needing 450 to 480 cfm. Is this carb gonna be to much? Or will it be ok?
in running a 500cfm carb on my 272. And alot of other guys run 500cfm all the time works just fine, guys even run 600cfm also but i think that around the 500cfm area is better so if you think your is 520 cfm i think you should be fine...other y-block guys should chime in after awhile.
I am probablly going to use my 4100 if I can. I would like to avoid a new carb if possible. Anyone running a 4100?
For a daily driver I would use the 4100 over the Holley. Ran both on my 56 Ford back in the day. The 4100 was a better choice for daily driving.
The 4100 is hard to find, some of the Y block guys say its the best carb there is for all around driving. If you have a good one, take good care of it.
I have 1 that looks like it would be good without a kit. And 1 that is a builder , and one that is a paper weight. Since I had given the 2 rougher ones to my buddy several years ago , when I asked about them he hooked me up with those 2 plus the one really nice one and a un opened rebuild kit for the price of that kit! I was hopeing that one of them would have been the smaller one but they are all the 1.12 I have seen them advertiavsed as 600 cfm, but the flow bench data I've seen show 510 - 540 with an average of 520.
The 4100 Carb is a GREAT carburetor. The larger one you have is the best, although your 272 will run well with the smaller 4100. Go to Pony Carburetors and you'll see some amazing stats on this carburetor. Check out their prices. You should know you got a GOOD deal from your buddy. Best Regards. RT
The engine will be a 292 more than likely . The 4100 is a great carb ! I would use anything bigger than 500 cfms . I know you can use a bigger carb like a 600 cfm but will be way too much carb . Really all you need is a 2 bbl Holley . Since you have a 4 bbl intake why not get the adapter for a 2x2 progressive set up that would be much nicer than a 4 bbl carb and look much better too ! Just a thought . Retro Jim
