Are there many examples out there of 30/31 Model A's running 32 firewalls? They look so cool in a Model A but I can't recall seeing this done a lot. Are there more examples out there that I know of?
In my Avatar is my 31 Model A roadster. It's got a 32 firewall in it. I have a 31 sedan that I've done the same way. I've always wondered why I haven't run across more of these.
Actually they just don't fit, so the best you can do is put the central part of a 32 firewall in your 30-31 A and the big question is WHY?
I use the whole firewall and it's not a bad fit. The feet end up needing an inch or so trimmed off the bottom because the old firewalls that I find usually have the ears broke off of the feet and need to be fixed anyway. I like to add any 32 features to a model A that I can. On my roadster I used a stock dimensioned 32 frame, grille, firewall, windshield frame and posts, dash, cowl vent, stock original gas tank and inner wheel wells.
Jacks yellow car......well its not HIS car, its really his wifes....is a very confusing car, it really does look like a 32 at first glance and many do mistake it for a 32. As for the 32 firewalls we were walking around the swapmeet in springfield mo this year and he picked up a 32 firewall for what 50 bucks Jack? It was not a perfect one by any means but it is great for what he is going to do with it, and he is right they do look much better than the model A firewals, and they do fit in the cars very well. He has become a master at "dressing up" model A's they are not clones of 32's but more like 31 1/2 cars. Jim
I always loved 32's but was on a "Model A budget" so I thought that any 32 feature that I could add to a Model A was worth the effort. You can find affordable 32 firewalls from time to time as long as you don't wait til you need one to look for one.
Here's some pictures of the 32 windshield posts and frame. I had to widen a stock 32 windshield frame 1 7/8 inches to fit it on the 31 but I later compared it to a 36 roadster frame and it's really close other than needing to be chopped for height.
