I know there are alot of us here that like VWs too & are even members of both boards. Whether you like 'em or not, this guy was a fellow enthusiast of the automotive hobby. If you pray, then I know this guy needs all he can get right now.

  4. Thanks for posting this Jeff,

Pete is one of the nicest, most sincere, helpful guys I know... and one HELL of a pinstriper. Always the first one to step up and help anyone whether it be helping others and spreading his passion of pinstriping or just to be there for a friend needing an ear to bend.

This just happened as he was coming home from work, getting ready to spend his birthday night with his wife, Melanie. Fed Ex truck came across the lane and hit him head on.

Last call I got from the hospital is that Pete is now in a coma with multiple fractures. Updates show that he was alone in the car, not with passenger as the news story first reported. Thank God, because the entire passenger side of the car is gone.

We have a couple members heading down here in WA right now, and then once they get here, Heidi and I are heading down with them to Portland to be there with him, his wife, and other members that are down in that area.

I don't believe Pete has medical insurance, so this is going to add some salt in the wounds for Pete and Melanie. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you have PayPal and would like to donate. We are taking donations at:

    volksrodder@comcast.net

Or if you'd like to snail-mail:

We're all in shock about this... just don't know what else to say.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Pete has been a great inspiration to me, just like a big brother. My car has the stance it has now because of him. He's originally an Aussie and I know he wont give up the fight! Get well soon brother..cause next years birthday is gonna be a whole lot better.

He's on my prayer list as of now. VW's are really cool but they usually come out second best in a collision like this. Hope he recovers to enjoy many more birthdays.

Geez, looks like he has a great support group but that is an awful way to be. The good news is that I'd think Fedex will cover all of his medical expenses and more if they crossed the center line and hit him with their truck. The bad news is that this could take a while and they can probably use some help till then. That is all way secondary to Pete's well being though. Keep us posted as I don't really get on those other boards. It might at least bring his wife some degree of comfort to see the all of the support during this hard time for the family.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers. Pete is one hell of a guy and a joy to watch when he's got a striping brush in his hand. He is one of those "humble hero" kind of guys. He's always very quiet and always ready to lend a hand to anybody that needs it. I was amazed when I watched him stripe my car. His hand was shaking like crazy until the tip of his brush hit the metal. All at once it was like he became a machine. The magic that flowed from his brush was totally awesome.

Thanks again for your prayers and if you can make a contribution that would be great too. The medical bills is one thing but he will be out of work for months. It makes a person stop and think about just how unpredictable life really is. Each and every one of us could have a life changing occurrence happen in a heartbeat.

    Thank you all, Walt

Man, keep us posted on his condition. I drove a beetle for years and got rid of mine for this reason. Seems they always loose in crashes.

Hope he is OK and has a speedy recovery.

  22. Im a VW enthusiast too. Just sold 3 of my buses. Someday I want to build a VW roadster.

I hope this accident wakes people up on the other side of the Auto Hobby...they drive like crap and stuff like this happens. I bet the driver of that Fed Ex truck is puckering. I hope he pays for his stupidity.

I pray that his family is comforted and kept in a place of peace. It is good that he has the support of his friends...true friends and family.

Im rooting for a speed recovery....I will send a donation too.

  25. Thank you so much for all the support. The news of this is spreading so fast
and the support out there from folks that have never even known of Pete is
    just amazing.

We have gathered over $2000 so far and we're on our way right now to hand
the first check to Melanie. THANK YOU!

Here's a shot of Pete's recent work that he was pretty damn proud of. Sadly
is nothing but scrap metal right now...

Thanks again for all the support.

    Weird...

I'm constantly kind of monitoring other communities that have the same kind of environment as the HAMB and that VW board is one that I watch pretty closely just to see how they run and administer things...

I started to notice this guy when folks started posting pictures of his work and was bummed to see the thread on the forum this morning when I was checking in.

The HAMB sent a little help.
