First off. I need to give you guys a little bckground. When I was 20 I purchased one hell of a survivor. It was a 49 chevy that was actually stored in a barn for 20 years from Arizona. 2 tone blue. It was a deluxe model, and had all the trim intact, and some white and blue tuck and roll interior. I put a 350/350 combo in it, lowered it a little, and drove the wheels off it. On one fateful day, the rear spring broke going down the freeway, locked the wheel in the wheelwell and I rolled it. With cash in hand I bought a major turd. It was nowhere near my 49 but I wanted a car bad and so I purchased my 52, pictured in my avatar. It had a camaro clip and I added a very non HAMB friendly injected LS motor. I went this route because the only way to correct so many things that were wrong with this car was to put a stock ch***is underneath it. Here is the epiphany: I still dream about my 49 sometimes. So now the hunt is on for a 49 chevy to donate its front sheetmetal and ch***is. I have a soft spot for the 52 now as well, so I guess I want to make a love child between the 2 years I have owned. I also plan on taking the clip and LS motor and transplanting it into my lady's 54 merc. She just wants a really reliable driver with power everything. Am I crazy?
Damn, that '49 looked perfect!!! That's pretty much how I'd like to do my '54 when the time comes. I like your idea of merging the two and pulling the LS motor out. Sounds like a plan not get to it and keep us posted!
from personal experience here I'll say this, if that is what you really want then score you a solid project on the cheap and build it the way you want it. Blowing apart a good running car seems like a good idea but later when you've nothing to drive for a year or two you will most likely regret it, ntm you'll most likely be pretty upside down $ wise in the new car. I dont want to dash your dreams just sharing some lessons I've learned. That said if you are still waay into it then **** it, go for it you gotta do what works for you bro!
I second the idea of not cutting one up to make two. You'll be money ahead selling the good running car for the war chest to build the other, or do what I'm doing- keep them both.
Sorry guys. I explained it poorly. I would like to just get the stock ch***is and front sheet metal from a 49. I would build the ch***is complete with the drive train and swap everything from my 52 on it with the 49 front sheet metal. My reason for the sheet metal is also motivated by the fact that the inner fenders and core support have been hacked out by the precious owner
I dig, well like I said hombre, do what works for you but keep in mind a frame swap is always time consuming. It turns into, well Im here so I might as well... next think you know...
Ha! Yeah no ****. I know better than that too but for some reason when you want something bad it tends to be rationalized. Maybe it's time to part with the 52. Sniffle..
I think that is a great idea, and it should make for an interesting project. How much hacking did the previous owner do to other parts of the car aside from the inner fender and core support? What were they trying to accomplish?
oh yeah. See I forgot already. I am pretty attached to the car though, and the fact that the chop came out so good.
