we went "pick'n" yesterday, don't know how we found this guy. he has a lot of "stuff"!! Cars were mostly mid "60's fords. some 40's dodge ect. any way he had several pilles of transmissions, and i can usually pick out what they are. he had a cast iron 4 speed that looked like a borg-warner T-10. it had been painted silver and most of the paint had flaked off. there was a aluminum shifter mount like the comp plus hurst shiffters used. it looked like a GM bolt pattern and tail shaft.

did GM make a cast 4 speed with the reverse mech. in the tail shaft housing?? what would it be worth, does someone want these for early 4-speed restos??

The iron case T10 was what Chevy used before they invented the Muncie. They can be valuable to some restorers, depending on what model it is.

Pretty sure I had a cast iron saginaw out of an early 70s Chevy. It was nothing special but had a deeeeep first gear.

A friend who is a Corvette enthusiast got extreamly happy when he found a iron T-10. He thought it was a 57 vette only deal. I never had a vette or a T-10 so have no clue.

Check it over for casting dates. It could be a late '50s T-10, or it could be a cast iron over the counter replacement transmission. I've got one with 1980 dates on it.

I think GM in the late 70's early 80's used super T10 4 speeds. 903 was all aluminum and 904 was cast main case and aluminum tailshaft. $400-500 for one in ok shape. Look at the output shaft, super T10 should be big like a th400 and t10 will be small like a sag.

With the silver paint, it might be a Studebaker. 61 & early 62 used a C.I. T-10 with the Chev pattern. Check the input shaft, Stude will have a longer pilot with a larger dia. -Jim

Its a all cast iron transmission and the output shaft looks like a standard chevy. the front bolt to the bell brakets, look like they have less braceing or gussets than the aluminum transmissions do.

I have a cast iron T-10 out of a Stude. It's supposed to be a close ratio trans.

Hello, I am new to the Forum but with several searches I found this to be a very knowledgeable collection of members.

With that said, I found this thread and have a transmission I have only partially ID'd. From what I gather its a Borg Warner T-10, made it 1978. Front and back are cast Iron center plate is aluminium. 26 spline in and 27 spline out. Here are a couple of pics...[IMG][/IMG]

Thanks! That helps a lot, there are a few odd items left to figure out though. If I read everything right, my trans is an aftermarket super T-10, but I counted only 27 splines on the output shaft.... perhaps I need to recount. I also noticed that when looking at photos I never saw another T-10 with the multiple mounting holes on the tail shaft housing like on mine. I suppose this is related to the fact that its aftermarket.

  15. I have a cast iron T 10, I'm told it came out of a Cosworth Vega. Anybody know if that's that what they ran?
