I have the Hot Heads aluminum front cover on my DeSoto, which eliminates the mount for a mechanical fuel pump. I got around that by running an electric fuel pump I picked up from my local Comet parts store. The pump has worked fine for the past few years.

Tonight at work, I was on my way to lunch when the pump quit on me. I had to go to the local Pep Boys for a universal electric pump, as the Kragen and Autozone were out of pumps. And Monument was closed. I had to get home, which was about 25 miles away, back in Castro Valley. I bought this from Pep boys and installed it in the wendy's parking lot, just up the street from work.:

What would you recommend to feed my engine?
I have a Edelbrock 600cfm on top of an otherwise stock DeSoto Hemi.
    Thanks.

I have used the Holley pump with good sucess....and NO failures.

It is a 5 to 7 PSI pump, flows 67 gallons a hour and does NOT require a regulator. 3/8 NPT in and out. I paid about $110 from the local speed shop. He had them in stock. It is pretty quiet too. I wired mine up on a separate switched/fused line. Kind of a theft kill switch.....

I believe the one in the photo I posted is not exactly like mine..........it has a vent on it that mine did not. Other than that......looks like it.

The speed shop guy said he sells a bunch of them..... the RED PUMP .........without ever a problem. I run a mechanical on my 32......cause I have the room. But 40 Fords with a SBC on a Hurst mount plate does not have the room. I ran a Edelbrock carb.........and they do not do well at excessive fuel pressure.

Yeah, I figured you were talking about the good ole RED PUMP... I think what you have pictured there is their marine pump.

I figured I'd throw out the part number to help avoid confusion.

FWIW... the pump is good as long as you get a good one. We have sold a couple hundred of them so far this year and have had a dozen or so failures. For the money they are a good pump. I've got a BLUE PUMP on my nitrous system and it works fine.

I've used the Carter Pump on my 36 for years with out ever experiencing any problems or failures. I have mine mounted to the rear crossmember just in front of the gas tank and use hard lines to do the connections.

If I should ever have a problem with it, I would not hesitate to replace it with the same.

I only use the Carter pumps on all of my HotRods.

  10. The Carter Street/Strip pump (p4594) doesn't need a regulator and free flows 72 gph. I've used 'em without any problems they run about half a hundred.

For a gear pump (raceing applications) I like the Mallory Comp 70 on a single carb car or the bigger one if I'm getting real serious. but they are a little pricey and require a return line to the tank.

I like the mallory comp 70. Very high quality and got mine new in box off ebay for 50 bucks. Any of the of the others mentioned would do a fine job. IMO

My carter's been going strong for 5 years now. Will flow more fuel than you'll ever use on the street and is cheaper than the Holley.

I'm runnin the Holley Blue pump on an off topic car. It's been on there for at least ten years.
On my 57 Y-block with dual fours I just installed a Carter Street/Strip pump (p4594) to replace a failing universal auto parts store inline pump. I've always heard nothing but good about the Carter pumps. I got it from Summit Racing for alittle over fifty bucks.

The Facet you put on should work just fine. Facet has replaced the points with an electronic curciut in that pump and I haven't heard anything bad about it. I've got a Facet "cube" pump on the flatty and a Carter on my 283. I perfer the Carter but I wouldn't change the one you have unless it fails.

The Facet seems to be a nice American made piece, I just wasn't looking to give Pep Bpys 75.76 for it, seeing as it only has 1/8" NPT fittings. I'll have to do a couple of WOT blasts to see if it can keep up with the DeSoto.

I had the Carter that you guys mentioned on my car for about an hour and realized it was way too loud for my tastes. But if they make Quality stuff, I'll have to give it another shot, maybe mounting it in a different way with more rubber isolators or something. Is the Carter a vane style pump, like the Holley, or a diaphragm like the Facet.

It seems to be a matter of personal preference I see. If the Holley Red is Quiter than the Carter I had I might gve that a shot. I lke to listen the the stereo and not my fuel pump. :D

    Thanks for all the Suggestions!
