After being on here for quite some time, I finally bought a car that fits the forum. It's a '51 Chevy business coupe. I've been searching for several months, trying to find a car that my wife and I could take to cruise-ins and on tours, but didn't require a lot of work up-front. I definitely didn't want another project - I have too many of those now! So, I give you Kermit: 44,000 miles, one repaint (in a non-original color), 216 c.i. engine, 3-on-the-tree and virtually NO rust! I'm the 5th owner in 61 years (although one guy did own it twice). We're not sure what our future plans will be for our new little green buddy, but right now I just want to get some other vehicles on the road before we change anything (except for the bumpers - they really could use a re-chrome...).
Very attractive cars. That's a nice, unmolested example. Good job! Promise you'll leave the sixer and 3 speed in there.
yeah, keep it stock. Don't rechrome ****. Just drive it. You'll rechrome one part. Then another part will need it. Then before you know it your cruiser is all over your garage like your other 9 cars. Oh wait, that's me.
I bought your car's cousin about a month ago. 1950 Styline Sport Coupe, straight six, three on the tree, some mild custom touches on the body and a totally redone stock interior. When you cruise in one of these you know that you're driving, not just a driver along for the ride. Enjoy
Thanks for all the kind words! The six and the 3-speed are definitely staying. Someone put a well-made set of dual exhausts on it, and they're staying too. As for the bumpers, the rest of the car is so well-kept... they just look out of place.
Drive it tinker with it do some improvements but keep it running. It is to NICE to blow apart and make a radical out of it.The new Street Rodder has a similar car that was a nice original car cut up to make a STREET ROD, NOT MY CUP OF TEA.
Pre-1965 model year, for starters. After that, period-sensitive mods. Thus, my '68 Camaro isn't welcome, and neither is a '32 Ford rolling on large-diameter billet and sporting an LSx crate motor. -Dave
