I trying to decide if I should letter my Hemi J Gasser style?
As you can see by my Avatar it's RED so I plan on doing the lettering
in gold leaf 60's style, what do you guys think???

I don't care to see race car lettering on street cars but that's just my opinion....

All that matters is what makes you happy.

If it's a race car, yes. If not, no. If it's both, no.

  6. I'd leave it.
    But what do I know..........

  7. There's already a "hemi j" out there

It wouldn't say Hemi j even though
I built mine first 14 yrs ago

  9. What would it say and where are you putting it ? I'm thinking of doing mine and got a good idea of what I want. Mine will be spending the majority of it's life on the track but want to go for a short cruise once in awhile too.

Might want to run that by your insurance company. I have heard bad things about a "race car" being in an accident. Had a friend to have his insurance denied because car had a roll bar.

Your right, I had to use a different
insurance co then my own since they
think it's a race car and it's only a street
    rod

I say no it's a street rod not a gasser. 60's = Henry J's were gassers, stockers or one that rode around Detroit a midnight blue pear/ metalliac custom. I bought the magazine your car was in just for your car. I like it but still no to the lettering.
PS There was a Hemi J in 59/60 cruising the old drag strip in Detroit. My grandfather use to ask me if that was what I was going to do when I got my 53 when I was 14. It was one reason my father wouldn't sign the title over to me till I turned 30 because he thought it would become a Hemi powerred gasser.

  15. Lettering is advertising. If you you feel you have a reason for lettering, then do it.

But, it'd be a shame to clutter that clean little J up. Less is more, you know.

    Why?

  18. If that's a legitimate business and you letter it up it becomes a tax deduction.
    Carpenter brothers racing to anything
    Carpenter brothers construction
    Carpenter brothers cosmetics
    Carpenter brothers marital enhancement
    Carpenter brothers physicians

  19. Forget the lettering but I'm thinking that if you want to break up the sea of red then do something involving gold leaf in a pin stripe design. I don't have any examples but I'm sure you could come up with something cool that would really set off the car!! Badd Ass car!!

letter it if racing or promoting your business.

    otherwise, it becomes a poser.

If it were mine I would not letter it for the street. Get some stick on lettering for those times you think it would be cool. Very nice car.

  22. In other words, letter alone. She's fine.

Any more pix? Some closer ones, angles ect. It looks like the rear windows are full of decals already. What is your engine theme? Interior? And the wheels?

I would letter it. Draws attention from the old racers in the crowd.
Car shows, cruise ins are are full of flamed cars. shiny cars, rat rods
and other nice vehicles, but your car is like an old race car. Make it look
like one. And it do'nt cost that much. I'm happy with mine. Charlie....

I wish I knew how to post some more pics so you guys could see more details. There's a great article in Ol Skool Rods #50. it's built 60's style, minus the straight axle but I saw a l saw a lot of Henry j gassers in the 60's without them. The interior is 60's tucknroll,
the Hemi is a 60's blown 392 Hemi, vintage Blower, drive unit and
intake. It's also getting pie crust slicks this summer !!!
