hey guys, i am going to be boxing off my original frame rails of my 41' and i am going to be cutting out the x member and replacing it with a progressive automotive x member with a triangulated four bar in the rear with coilovers and a ifs setup in the front. i am debating pulling out the inner frame rails that the x member ties into the main rails due to some rust spots that could be hiding behind where they tie into each other, because i dont want some rust sneaking up on me in the long run. am i going to be facing any structual loss if i remove it and box the rails? to me i just dont see it really affecting it too much because they will be full boxing plates. but any feedback would be great thanks guys. some other misc info on thetruck, current planning on 351w(400-550hp) mated with a c6 with a 9" rear
Seems to me your boxing plates will be every bit as effective as the inner liner you you want to remove. I used a '40 frame on my '33 and did just that. After stepping the frame I boxed it with 3/16" plate. I think the inside is stronger than the outside.
awesome i am pretty sure thats what i am going to end up doing i just wanted to catch some feedback to see if anyone choose the same route. feel free to post more comments on the matter! thanks for posting banginona40
Sounds like a good move.....I found a lot of rust in mine, took it apart, before sandblasting, then re ***embled it. A lot of work, to be sure.....Those factory hot rivits were in for keeps !!!! 4TTRUK
honestly i want it to be as much henry ford as i can but also having the security that its still going to be safe for the parameters i will have it in with the drivetrain. i thought about buying new frame rails but i feel that the ones i have are in pretty good condition, so the 1200-1700 seems it could go some where else in the build.
and if i new there was a 40fordguy i would of picked a different name!! i could venture to say great minds think alike.
