What is the proper backspacing for the front rims on a 6 lug 57 Chevy 3100? Thanks.

Should be the same as rear depending if it is 15 inch or 16 inch rims.
I think normally on a six inch wide rim would be around 3 3/4 to 4 inches

My truck has a 10 bolt rear end from a 76 Camaro so I am trying to figure out what backspacing I need to run.

Stock is closer to 3". You need to be careful not to get too much backspacing or the rim will hit the tie rod, and (not as bad) the tire will hit the drag link when you turn left.

If you want five lug to match the rear 49-54 Chevy hubs and brakes will work
    on your spindles

51-54 car hubs/drums are the best fit, 49-50 used a different style brake.

Forget to mention that the rear end has been converted to 6 lug...
