Hey guys...I know this may sound stupid...but how do you remove the pinion gear from the banjo? With the double tapered race I assume the race has to come out before the pinion and rear pinon bearing? I looked in my book and it shows a tool AATA-1. I have no such tool, is there another way to do this? This is a 35-36 center section if that matters.
This is a pretty good write up... It all pushes out the pinion hole. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=462776
A small bottle jack (not a bottle of Jack ) is that tool i use Works good. Maybe some heat (little), too
Chris, My old Ford book shows a special pulller for pinion removal. There is also a special fixture for heating the housing to re-install the pinion bearing and pinion as an assembley. I can scan and copy the picture if you want.
