What, no one here asking what a fade away fender is ? ? Well i have,nt got a clue ? How about this sectioned 1954 FJ Holden in the B &W pic. ? ( scallops ) Is this what your looking for ? Or the orange 1954 Austin custom coupe where the fenders flow into the doors. If your using the wrong term you,ll never find an answer.

Great post i would like to see some more on fade away fenders Thanks Rik for the articles. The fad away fenders look good but man i can see tons of time in metal finishing those seams that are a little hard to get at.
When Jim (Kustom7777) worked on his 1941 Caddy he had a guy do the finishing work on his custom fade away fenders. There must be a post on here about this... perhaps with some words how it was done. I could not find the post right away.. and don't have time to search deeper right now. But if you click the photo below you will get to my site where I saved all the photos from Jim's original Hamb post. The photos will tell a lot. (The car is now in Denmark and will become a wonderful full tail-dragging custom...) Photoshopped image

Many years ago I was privileged to be riding around the Bonneville pits in Big Olds with HRLC & BenD. We stopped at the Gene Winfield pit for a spell (another 3 page story). As we were about to drive off Kent Fuller walked up, looked at Big Olds, and said “fadeaways; gotta have fadeaways” (or something very similar to that). Gene looked up from thrashing on his (not very) tall T coupe and agreed, then went back to work. A visual memory that will be seared into my brain for as long as I’m breathing, even if I don’t remember the exact quote.
I agree, must have fadeaway. Have just startet planning fadeaway om my car. The biggst problem iss the door opning and hinges.
Thanx. Its got potential, but i think the doors need rounded corners and the front end needs a change too. Kool car still, woul make a super mini sled.
funny. I'm just getting ready to throw a few hundred old rod books into the burn pile and was leafing thru a few Rodders Digest NO. 61 oct. 1994 has a article of "JUST STEVE" putting bucket seats in Big Olds I don't have a working scanner I'll try my cell phone. the artice on fade aways they used a mid 40's chevrolet hood for the fade aways
