...trying to set 5th driven gear on main shaft, I've got about .125" or less to go till the c-clip notch in the shaft. I drove it most of the way on with a nice square cut piece of schedule 40 pipe. Once that stopped being effective I put it in my press but holy-****, that ****er doesn't wanna go! Any helpful insight would be greatly appreciated!

Is this the gear that has been on it in the past, or a replacement? Even if it's the original, try taking it off and rotating to a new position. Sometimes splines get worn in a pattern.

Edit -- the Tremec manual is on-line, Here is what it says about 5th gear (attached). If you haven't keept everything in the same position, and marked how it was on there originally, all you can do is find a position that works, or buy a new ***embly...

yeah, original gear. I'll pull it and try it again in another position but as for marking previous position I've only read in Tremec tear-down/rebuild that that is necessary for synchro ***emblies, not gears.

Your not installing it backwards are ya? The step (part without teeth) goes up towards snap ring groove. If that isn't it check the index keys in the 1/2 syncro, they have to be in the notches of the blocker rings, if not they will hold up the rest of the gears. 1st and 2nd gears should spin freely if they are in the correct spot.

    That isn't 5th gear driven, that's a syncronizer.
