216 to 235 motor

    hey all,
    I just bought a 50 chevy fleetline and have a question about changing my motor in the car from a 216 over to a 235. can you tell me what needs to be changed to change the car to a 235. ex- motor mount or anything else.

    You will have to use a front mount like the 216 has and most likely shorten the shaft on the waterpump and use a shorter pulley to clear the radiator. That has to be done on pickups but I'm not sure about cars.

    what to do depends on what the year of the 235 is.

    1954 or earlier car, or '55 first series or earlier truck will swap with just drilling 2 holes in the front motor plate to work with your stock '50 front motor mounts.

    later 235's will also need the two holes drilled, but these engines also have a different water pump. You can buy an adapter plate that will allow you to reuse the earlier style pump. This will work out better overall than trying to run the shortened water pump.
    Then there is the issue of Alternator or generator and the belt width you plan on using?
