I thought it might be cool to start a thread and see what people think were the best looking of the 4dr cars. And NO I don't mean ones that have been converted to 2drs, or ones used as parts cars for 2drs! Things like the 56 Chevy 4dr hartop and the 61 Lincoln Continental come to mind for me. (I don't think there has ever really been a bad looking Lincoln until recent years.)
Yup.. 57-58 Eldorado Broughams. Also 61-64 Lincoln Continentals, especially 61s. I like my '60 Lincoln Premiere coupe but when I started the thread on it at least one person said it was a car that looked better as a 4 door, they may have a point. Oh and 56-57 GM 4 door hardtops in general really look good.
I'm biased and like the Fleetlines, but the 59/60 GM 4 door hardtops are my 2nd favorite. I love the wrap-around rear gl***.
As a child of the '50's, Four Doors were always what your Grandpa and Grandma drove.....never even considered owning one for myself. apart from a '63 Lincoln Continental that defies the definition....Having said that.....Here is one of the very few I'd actually spend my own money on......Had one exactly like it in 1967.......Centurion9
59-60 GM flat tops, the fastback 49-52 Chevy Fleetlines, the 42-48 Fleetline "German Helmet" sedans and the '56 Ford 4 door hardtop all come to mind as very nice looking 4 doors. Those stick out in my mind since it seems like they were designed from the start to be 4 doors, and not a coupe design with an extra pillar forced onto it. As for custom 4 doors, I think the best ones are the ones that keep it mild, with the right stance and wheels and not a whole lot more. They start to look cheesy when they're overdone, or if they're trying to be something they're not. One of my favorites is 390Merc's Monterey And this is my '64 Olds, which I'm trying to emulate the same look with.
I have built several 4 doors for myself and customers over the years , here is a 34 Dodge Brougham I did.... Fuel Injected 560 Horsepower 5 speed manual ******/AC 4 wheel discs/ power windows/not traditional I suppose..... Also I added a pic of my buddy John's 34 Ford I chopped for him.....
