I had to go buy a new camera... my other one ran off somewhere.

Here's the project on my table right now:

Thanks guys. Seeing Jeff Allison's artwork in the recent issue of The Jalopy Journal made me pull it back out after letting it sit partly finished in a box for the last six years or so. Originally, it was going to be slammed with the same paint/engine treatment, but I'm really liking it with the '40 Ford front suspension with a straight tube axle. Now I need to find my Moon tank and finish the engine up.

    Very cool indeed.

I have yet to take pic, but I'm starting on a project I'm calling The Hot Rod Lincoln. Maybe some pics tomorrow....

thats cool. reminds me in an odd ball way of the Willys from "Hot Rod" (Movie). Only the basics "gasser." Dig it!

Here's what I've been working on. This illustration in the latest Street Rodder caught my eye.

    So I made this:

Couldn't find an AMT '40 Deluxe kit without driving to the other side of town, and Hobby Lobby had plastic models 50% off. So I got the Revell '40 Standard (and 5 others including my 3rd Big Deuce!!). I think the standard front end works better with the design. Close enough on the chop, still have some work to do on the side window profile and need to add the drip rail.

  6. Gowjobs-that gasser is awesome. Might just have to build one like it in the future;). Ive been too busy on carburetors the past few weeks for models. Ive got way to many just sittin' around 80% done.

    Fidgiter,

That thing is really looking good. You going to leave the flathead in there, or stuff a nailhead in? Looking forward to seeing this one progress.

Here's a question for the model gurus, where do you get wheels and tires? I need chrome reverses and wide whites, or at least the wheels. I found a couple places online but for the price they get I could buy a whole kit with the wheels I need, if I could find a kit with those wheels anyway!

Good chrome reverses with wide whites?

If you want them all the same size, I suggest the AMT Custom '62 Catalina, or perhaps the Custom '60 Starliner. For bigs 'n' littles, try the AMT Ala Kart.

I agree on the Catalina. I have 3 of them just for the wheels, tires ,lake pipes and the custom interior parts.

The Chevy looks great. I remember the sketch pad the you were talking about, and was going to use the AMT '50 Olds to build it when AMT announced it. That was before AMT turned around and cancelled it.

I came up with a grille treatment I like, and I threw a hood on it, but I doubt I'll ever display the car with it in place.

Maybe now it won't be mistaken for a Kaiser?

I like it. I did a similar build on the R-M '40 Convert:

I read the model car post everytime you put up a post. I am looking for a 59 buick 2 door hardtop, do they exist? I always try and build a model of the type car I have. Nice cars. TP

If there ever was a '59 Buick HT produced in scale, I'm willing to bet it was only as a dealer promotional model, lacking under-hood or chassis detail. There are kits of '59 Pontiacs, Chevrolets and Cadillacs available - perhaps one of the cottage industry manufacturers does a resin conversion?

  20. Are those '59 Pontiacs in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? I saw them on a site recently but couldnt find the scale.

  21. Vey, nice!!! What did you rob to get the front spring setup? I have about 5 or six non straight axle kits that I want to make into straight axle cars and want to know what setups people are using.

I found '59 Buicks in resin kits, but they're pricey. The good news is that Modelhaus does VERY nice castings, with few (if any) bubbles or blemishes to fix.

Dean, the '59 Bonneville HT and convertible kits are 1:25, made by Trumpeteer.

CadGuy, since Allison's illustrations, which inspired me to pull this one out and finish it, seem to all sport transverse leaf springs, I robbed a Revell '40 Ford for it's front leaf and wishbone, which I split. The Chevy's existing crossmember was forward of the axle centerline, making the choice of a spring-ahead-of-axle suspension obvious. The front axle is made from K&S aluminum tubing. I think my all-time favorite straight axle comes in the AMT '55 Chevy kits (the Nomad is my favorite) or the Monogram '55 BadMan/Chevy Street Machine.

Dave do you have a pic of the setup?

  24. Thanks Dave, and I'd second a request for a pic of the setup.

Here you go guys. What the hell, it's Tech day! I just ran out and took a couple with the body off:

(edit: Still need to do steering linkage and some more work on the engine, including the blower drive)

Which kit/s has the best body detail (lines, drip rails, etc) of a 1932-34 Ford pickup and a 1932 5-window? I am going to build a couple trditional rods and was just wondering what you guys think is the best. Thanks,

    Ben
