I am in the process of buying a 1936 Plymouth 4 Door. It is all original and complete but doesn't run. I would like to update the front end and the rear end, as well as put a nice, powerful motor in it. I'm not looking to turn it into a total hot rod but give it some of the qualities. I am looking forward to any and all advice you have to offer. I have been watching the forum for a little bit and I think I have figured out a few of the things I want to do. I was thinking about the Mustang II front end from either FatMan Fabrication or Butch's Cool Stuff. Also, I was planning on putting a Chrysler 9 1/4 read end on it if I can find one that won't break the bank. As for the power, I was thinking about dropping a slightly modified 318 in her with a rebuilt 727 trans but is there a possibility of going bigger without changing the look of the car? I would rather have a sleeper than anything, even though everyone will see that it has different wheels. Any advice would be great. Brian
Cool with the mopar Brian and welcome! My shop is located in Wylie and I'm in the process of building my 39 dodge coupe. My 318 is built and mocked into the frame with ch***is engineering style mounts. I think the 36 will be different than the 39 up frames but may be wrong? Keep us posted and let me know if I can help you with anything. Butch's is supposed to be a stand up outfit but I haven't personally used them. We are a dealer for JW Rod Garage if you decided to go that way. Feel free to stop by if you wish. Tyler
Tyler, Thank you and I will keep that in mind. I had heard about JW but since I am new to these pre-war cars, I will be learning a lot as I go. My only question right now is, How big of a motor would you suggest that I go for this vehicle? I want to give her power without taking away from the look of the car. Thank you.
Engine bay clearances and steering fitment are a tight issue with these cars. A small block mopar will fit with some thought and it will give it plenty of power. Check out the p15-d24 forum to. Still not sure if the 36 is the same as the 39 frame wise if so there are plenty of things I would suggest to do besides the engine swap.
Sounds like an interesting project. I don't know much about your car in particular but would be willing to give you a hand where I can. I'm over in Ft Worth.
Once I get the car to where I'm going to store it for now, I will take some measurements and possibly drive out to your shop and talk to you about it. That way I don't confuse anyone on my measurements and where they are at.
Welcome! Always good to see another DFW HAMBer! I'm finding more and more DFW HAMBers! Check out the North Texas HAMB social group. They normally have a monthly HAMBurger run! Great guys! And feel free to hit me up for any labor help. I don't have any high end skills but always willing to help a fellow HAMBer out.
