There is NOTHING that is more period than stock perches and king pins with Hyd brakes. Thats just as pure as pure gets.

...so Chris, what king pins are you going to use? ;)

TRUTH. I actually have been seeking out as much original stuff for my '33 as I possibly can because all that Henry stuff adds to the overall feel of the car. Those Perch bolts are extensions of everything else on the car.

  5. True, like I said earlier...every time someone lops off the top of a 32-34 perch pin, and angle looses their wings :D

I am using an OLD set of NOS Federal Mogul king pins that I had. Not the original with the cup if that's what your getting at ;)

  6. Sorry man, I'm too busy working on my cars :D:D:D

I don't know about you guys, but I think this looks pretty damn good myself.

I couldn't have run my original 34' spindles with steering arm(heated and bent to match the dropped original axle), and ball and socket drag link without cutting the brake rod brackets off.

  8. Chris , who did your plating ??? I may want to get some small stuff done on my 35, the glove door for sure !:D

Love the radiator hoses! How about a little more info since I'm building 34 with a 59a. Traditional or not, I hate the Flexible radiator hoses I have right now.

  16. I just bought the 37-39 standard stainless hose kit. I cut the upper end off were needed and went to the parts store to find some hose with the correct angle for the top. Pretty easy to do. If you have a way to mandrel bend pipe, you can do it yourself with a piece of strait pipe.

  17. Tonight was a real treat...I pulled the front end back out of the car and stripped it down.

Then it was non stop welding and grinding. I filled the 3 holes in the axle, and also welded on some shock mounts. On the mounts, they will get painted with the rest of the axle inlay. I chose welding over drilling and bolting them...with the axle stretched it gets pretty thin. I highly dought it would ever break, but I also don't feel like finding out either. It did not hurt the chrome, if you really wanted to you could cut the mounts off and repaint the inlay and it would be back to normal :D

And also filled the "Chinese" steering hoop. I cut the insert out with a cut off wheel, and also cut the notched with a cut off wheel. Pretty primitive, but it's all I have to work with. Then welded it...this is the first welding, I gotta go back and fill some crevices and smooth on it some more.

I hope to have whatever is getting painted in the front end painted this weekend, then the front end can go back under it for good.

I finally bit the bullet and signed up for the HAMB I figured if I am going to be your wife I should at least follow you posts ;)

Chris, you are right there are a lot of little things your doing to get this car on the road. I guess I never realized because I really only see the finished product of each major step and not the process it takes to get there. Your also very right that you have a lot more work to do! So get back in the garage !!!! ;)

Now that's a wife right there! Your a lucky man Chris! I'm also blessed enough to have a wife that is a huge supporter of my obsession... don't think she'd ever sign up on the HAMB though.

Chrome is looking good! Ditto on having a supportive wife! Glad I got to meet you both in Austin. You'll be a great couple. Now I gotta get back to my build but no sandblasting for my wife tonight. She has a cold.

  22. Ha! I like your signiture...suites you well ;)

  23. Tonight I went to my Brother's, he made a jig for reversing springs and he is a pro at it. I had a spare main leaf I wanted to use, and keep the original as it had new shackles in it and you gotta take them out to reverse the spring...taking them out usually ruins em. So i brought both leafs. The new leaf to reverse, and the original main to use as a pattern to get the arch right. Didn't take long...

Went home, cut the ends off the second largest leaf, painted it, and put it together minus 2 smaller leafs when it dried

Then started masking the axle off primer and paint. Thats about it, hope to have the axle/wishbone/spring back under it in the next day or 2!!

Looking great, sounds like you've got it made in more ways than most. A huge credit to your willingness to bust ass with what your have.

One helluva job you do with all your dealings.

JamieMarie I got a good laugh out of your post. Welcome to the HAMB! Those of us who are lucky enough to have a supportive spouse (or spouse to be) that understand our addiction really appreciate the support from our better half. Chris you need to take good care of this lady, jewels like her don't come along that often!

  26. Seeing you get excited about chrome plating just makes me smile. I remember the old Chris who we literally had to twist his arm to buy a set of chrome plated stock garnish molding for his A coupe at Googuys a few years back.

  27. Yes Billy, I have come a long ways :D

Woke up early and peeled the tape off, and put the front end together. Not bad for being all pieced together chrome, eh?

  28. I am sooooo jealous of that front end. Rad.

How about a better pic of your bro's spring press?

I built the same type of spring press. Oddly enough mine sits on my toolbox as well. One thing I realized for future reference is that if you build one something heavier then 1/8" wall box tubing. I ended up having to gusset mine because it starting exhausting the steel by mid spring.

    Front end looks incredible!
