We wont even go there with the Model A, but as for my daily driven '59, my speedometer, odometer, tach, low-beams, horn, radio, and wipers just flat out dont work, and I gotta' manually work my blinkers. Someday I'll get around to fixing these things, but how many people have the "if it runs, drive it" mentality? -Dean
Surprisingly my 67 Chevy truck have stuff that works, well now. I got headlights (high and low), turn signals (manual turn off one side), brake lights and a really big clock that has 2 knobs and used to be a cassette player but only the clock works now. I hope to have back up lights someday when I get around to installing the switch that has been sitting in my glovebox for about 7 months now, BUT if it runs just drive it hell it's the summer.
in my car the vent cord has been cut so you gotta open it at the firewall from under the hood..surprisingly the heater works! the turn signals work but the hub that the switch is in is loose from behind the steering wheel so i have to pull it up to the wheel whenever i drive, plus the switch itself is about a foot long since i custom cut one to replace what was left of the stock ultra short one..the gas gauge doesnt work, and the CD player does and then doesnt..i wanna stick the stocker back in the dash,though... creepy
all my cars every function works down to the clock gauges interior light reverse lights cigarette lighter. I go so far as to make sure any car with shaved handles has a cable back up. i hate cars that things dont work right
Its odd but everthing on my daily '60 Chevy works except the speedo and the interior light,Well the interior light works but to turn it off you gotta take the bulb out.The dash lights are dim as Hell and the gas gauge is kinda moody but I carry a gas can in the trunk so who cares?I love this car ...
MO state law requires a lot of stuff to work like high/low beams, turn signals, and the like. So that stuff works. Radio works too when I put the antenna back in it. No reverse lights. No heater due to the fact I tore out the busted ass core 2 winters ago. Also the factory clock quit who knows how long ago. Cig lighter is iffy, works, quits, works, quits, works, quits.....
Everything worked when I bought it, but the plastic gear in the transmission 86ed, so I have no speedometer function.. The radio kind of hums, but I have a replacement I ebayed over the winter ready to go in. I haven't fixed the speedo drive gear because it's kind of nice knowing I won't surpass my 3000 mile yearly limit for the insurance company. However, it all original 6v stuff with frayed cloth wiring. I'm sure the status of works/doesn't work rests on a fickle balance. However, I just drive it. I drive it in heavy traffic, but I don't take it out on the highway.
head lights tail lights (most of the time) hazards wipers radio keyless entry oil and vaccum guages no lights the lights in the original guage cluster work but none of the guages do
not much, so i will list what doesnt work, horn passenger door alternator reverse light all my gauges dont work radio all the weatherstripping is shot clock sometimes my blinkers locks driver side vent window wipers sometimes my power brake booster ummmmmm heat yea thats my list, and i drive this car almost everyday
OK....call me a gold chainer...... Everything works on the Roadster........I always get my 32 inspected by the NSRA guys and it always gets the Safety 23 pin......just makes sense to me to keep everything legal so the MAN has no excuse or reason to stop you and hassle you.... No radio and No heater........it's a roadster Randy
On my Rivi I have to open my door pretty wide to get my power windows to work. It sucks because when there are small parking places I have to stop open the door roll them up then park. People behind me like it the most.
What works? Um... just enough for it to be daytime legal. Brakes, steering, etc. Headlights (but no running lights) turn signals that blink on their own (but none in the front) and brakelights. Backup lights are still in a box somewhere. Speedo is a no-show. No gas gauge whenever the ground wire falls off. No factory ammeter. No factory temp. Aftermarket tach no workie. In fact, the only gauges that do work are the slapdash aftermarket vac and oil pressure. Well, okay, the stock oil pressure idiot light works. No horns. They're in another box. Two out of the eight factory interior lights work (two under the dash, two out at the end of each door, two on either sailpanel.) All the power windows work, but the rear quarters are slow and icky. Six-way power seats haven't worked since the first Reagan administration. Radio probably stopped working in the middle of an LBJ state-of-the-union. One of the three stock cigarette lighters works. At least the socket does. Heaters a nonissue. Not yet plumbed for water, none of the cables are connected- it's a refit from yanking the old AC and trying to install a stock heater-only. Thought I could just swap plenums, turns out I need to gut the dash and replace most of the ducting as well. Vac trunk latch is is, and works, but not yet connected to a vac source. Wipers work, washer don't. Car doesn't have flashers- they were an option back in '66. But the steering is tight, the brakes will give you change from your dime, engine is healthy, trans is solid, diff is quiet as a churchmouse. And it's on the street, moving under it's own power, and legally (mostly) daily-drivable for the first time since 1986. Screw the little stuff, I'm goin for a ride! Doc.
Radio inop heater blower fan only works sometimes temp and oil pressure guage lights inop backup lights on a seperate switch blinkers don't blink with the headlights on(6V car)
I hate stuff that doesn´t work. Either I fix it or I remove it. That´s why my 62 Impala has no longer a neutral safety switch and my 56 Bel Air got rid of its hazard blinkers. The speedo and the turn signals on my 34 Plymouth went out lately, I´m gonna fix it tonight.
64 Cadillac w/ lots of power options Working: Power windows, 6 way power seat, automatic dimmer switch, high/low beams, tail lights, front interior lights, glove box light, power antenna, Non Working: Signal seeking AM radio, clock, rear interior lights, 1 brake light, and the highly problematic Comfort Control heater/ac unit.
Oh yeah! My post should have been "... that´s why my 56 Bel Air got rid of its hazard blinkers AND windshield wipers...."hahahaha I double that, rainex rules!!! Chris
doesn't work: heater (no controls), the rear quarter windows, the passinger side window works some (manual, and stripped regulator gear), speedo just bounces around a lot, no horn, and now my turn signal switch is crapping out. I've got alot of mechanical things needing fixed, I try not to think about it, so I won't get pissed at the car, but it's my own damn fault for not getting my lazy ass out and fixing it.
I've gone too many years driving stuff that had thing's that don't work. Like wipers, horn, e-brakes.. Now i try to get it all to work. I guess i just fell like i actually did something the right way .
Let's see; what works in my '41? Well, the heater does'nt. Hey wait a min., I don't have a heater! Then the boost gauge isn't working; opps took the blower off. Other than that, everything is AOK.
Due to the fact that MN state law pretty much only requires you to be able to stop if you want to drive, and have lights at night, just the basics work for me. Looks like that'll change if I stay in CA though... so here's what works... low beam high beam all blinkers but rear left... can't find the short to save my life. brake lights speedometer odometer oil pressure amp guage temp guage wipers heater is always on... no blower though radio works by way of the cig lighter dash lights work whenever they want
I got my speedo on my '60 working. It works perfectly up to 15 mph, then it goes crazy.I liked it better when it didnt move at all.
I have worked to get as much as I can on mine. The horn does not work (can not figure out how to make the factory 59 steering wheel set up work) but everything else does.........
all my important gauges work. The clock on the dash doesn't work and the tubes in the AM radio need to be replaced. The vacuum wipers are hit and miss for the most part.....and I need to trace a bad ground for a taillight but I've just been too lazy to bother with it, which I'm allowed because the Impala has 3 other functional taillights (and 2 functional backup lights).
Ahhh, them was the good old days! I bet he didn't use a brain bucket either! Roll bars; what's a roll bar?!!!
I know it's a generational thing and not meant to be a slam, but I'm not proud of the things I'm too lazy to fix or the things I don't know how to fix so I'll just keep that to myself.
