  1. Let me preface this with what this is not. This is not a lets feel sorry for the '****** thread. I don't feel sorry for my self and I don't expect anyone else to either. Nor is this a let's kiss the '******'s *** thread either, I don't really care too much for a kiss *** and if you are marginal in my respect book it will only seal the deal.

It has recently been pointed out to me that my disability and the lack of liquid ***ets that it has caused me, makes me a poser. Actually it was pointed out to me that because I am not an Alliance Member is what makes me a poser. I suppose one could be related to the other in a sense.

I personally don't believe that not being an Alliance Member makes me a poser, but I am aware that to many it is probably a thorn in their side. I am getting away with not paying when they are paying to be here. I won't apologize to you for that, as it was your choice to become an Alliance Member and you do get perks that the non-paying members do not. I don't doubt that to the general population not being an Alliance Member makes me a freeloader.

Never the less I will admit that it has been a while since I have given much to the HAMB. I am aware that this is how Ryan makes his living, and that I do burn a lot of bandwidth. Having gone back over what I do generally post I am sure that most of what I post is of little or no value.

All that said I am going to take some time to reflect and try and decide what my role on the HAMB should be, or if I should have any role at all. Given my nature it will probably turn out to be the latter until such a time as I can pay my way. Don't expect me to become an Alliance member at that time, I do not wish to be counted a**** the elite.

All that said I will be checking my PMs from time to time; in the event that someone needs to get in touch with me. If it is going to require a lengthly conversation we can exchange E-mail addies.

So now is your chance, I will not be responding to this thread so say anything ugly that makes you happy.

I never knew that folks judge members on being an alliance member or not. I'm too busy buying stuff out the cl***ifieds as needed for my cars or for myself. Will I become an alliance member soon? Probably so when I decide to start buying from companies on this site for that discount given once I start on my projects this summer. I guess I'll stay a Greaser for now before I decide to become a Prep. lol

I think you've been invaluable to the HAMB so far. Most people neglect to forget what the HAMB is about, a community of people who share similar beliefs in traditional hot rodding. But in a community, there's more than just what they all believe in.

There are threads about people going through hard times and we provide encouragement. There are threads about people losing loved ones and we provide encouragement. Is that not what a community does?

So what if you aren't an Alliance member? You still provide input on all the troubleshooting threads from what I've seen. You're much more knowledgeable with motors and what makes them work as well as troubleshooting them than I am and I have that "label." I learn something every time you give your input on those threads.

Don't let the ones who think $50 makes the difference between a hot rodder and a poser get to you. They just don't get it if that's what they're basing their judgement of you on.

You've given me good advice over the years and I've seen you give it to others. Most important is you have kept things light hearted without straying very far off topic. This is supposed to be a fun hobby and I always got the feeling you were laughing and smiling, so I hope your back soon.

My friend this is a non issue in my book and in my opinion again, your contributions and thoughts are welcomed and prized.
Alliance is a great opportunity to save a buck, but it doesn't gender knowledge.
    Keep it coming.

By choice comes to mind. Free loader doesn't. Not much of an ***-kisser myself, but I've enjoyed and learned some from your posts '******. That oughta be worth something. But, whatever works for ya man, good luck.

This is the internet, and this is a public forum.
I never log on expecting to win some kind of popularity contest.
It's all about an education and learning.
I can either agree with you Pork&******, or I can disagree, but I log on expecting to read what you and a couple others write about car mechanical topics.

I've wondered lately why a lot of the long standing contributors, such as those posting large numbers of photos on topics such as Drag Cars in Motion, had suddenly ceased posting.
I thought they were tired of me and found new internet endeavors anonymously under new screen names, but now I think I understand it's like most issues and $$ based.

P&B'r, please resume contributing until either this becomes a private forum or you and I are permanently censored.
Thank you; Tom S. in Tn.

Free loader? What the hell. You should be rewarded for your contribution. You contribute above and beyond the call.

I propose a system where major contributors of valuable content are granted alliance membership.

I nominate porkn****** for the first recipient.

I don't give a rats *** if you or anyone else is an Alliance member. Not being a member doesn't make you a poser. I always get a kick out of your "no ********" at***ude and also noticed that you've advised quite a few people on mechanical issues. That means alot, especially to these younger fella's who come here for advice. The next time someone calls you a poser bounce a beer can off their head.(but don't open it right away).

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it...you contribute more than you realize

This kinda bums me out. You're not leaving, are you? We need the guys who have been around to tell us about how it was. Otherwise it's the rest of us just talking to each other about how we think it was.

Poser...??? Sure, but aren't we all...??? I am...!!!

My "Alliance" membership just got dropped...reason I let it lapse: even tho there are tons of vendors on here, I don't buy anything from them, hence a discount is of no use to me. Ryan simply found a way to turn a 'having fun site/forum' into a money maker...it's the American way after all-free enterprise. I can remember the discussion many years ago when "most" of the members agreed a charge would help Ryan run this place...it started at $5.00 a year and went up from there...I really don't remember how $50.00 was arrived at tho.

The HAMB got started on a 'join in' basis and contribute what you can...for many years...that's how I joined...and that's how I shall remain, until such time as it turns mandatory.

For those that '*****' about your status, tell 'em to go take a flying **** at a rolling donut...and continue contributing to this place...I really don't believe anyone else on this forum has any say in WHO stays in this place other than Ryan...if he sez you're not contributing or you're hanging around too much...then P'nB, there is a problem...other than that, quit worrying about post count, not contributing or those people that bust your balls for not being an Alliance member...there's a lot of us that aren't ALLIANCE members.

do things in your free time that are fun and stress free. when the fun stops, stop doing them. when you miss it, start doing it again.

easy way to go through life.

p.s. i am an alliance member and a poser. I don't have the tools or ability to finish my car so it took a ride on a flatbed this week to a friend/builder to finish up. I will be posting a poser build thread shortly.

I really hate to see you leave,I've enjoyed your dry sense of humor, and your perspective on a LOT of things. I've been an alliance member before, and i've not been an alliance member, too, but I don't check a posters status before I consider his opinion. Without the Alliance, the HAMB wouldn't be the same, but not all of us can re-up every year.
Stick around,P&B.... the joint won't be the same without you.

PB- The information you provide is spot on and very helpful. That is not the case with most of the replies you see anymore. I can say you are one of the few guys on here that I actually pay attention to and learn from. Thanks for that....

I have a good buddy that often shows up at the bar to hang and bench race. My group often takes proper turns at buying rounds to keep the party rolling. But "Joe" has had some health issues and just can't buy hooch and still keep building his car. But he is always great fun, helps a lot of us out and is full of good advice.

Like we tell him... Give what ya' got.

So keep up the good advice on here and **** the rest.

    I'll second that.

    I'll second THAT too...

I'd like to know who the cheese**** is who made you feel you don't belong here or you're not as good as someone else because you're not an alliance member. What total ********.

I've been an alliance member a couple of times in the past, probably will be again sometime, right now it's not in the cards, but I don't let it bother me.

Some guys join to help support the site, some for the discounts. I'd bet a dollar to Roger's rolling donut the alliance member busting your balls joined so he could feel like he was one of the elite.

Here's hoping you hang around PB, I enjoy your wit.

P&b - for what its worth I will say this. When this forum gets hostile and I think "why do I waste my time?" You and a select few others are what keep me coming back. I not only value, but also look forward to what you have to say. I feel that the hamb is a better place with you around, and I hope you're here for years to come.

******, something must have happened to bring this on, not sure what, but evidently someone said something to you. Otherwise, how would this have come up at all. I haven't renewed my Alliance Membership this year yet either because I have had some things pressing me in my financial life too right now, and I may or may not be able to rejoin at some point this year. But I don't feel like I am using the forum by not contributing money.

When I first started posting on the forum I will be honest, I was rubbed the wrong way by some of your comments, but then as I got to know you I realized it was just your dry sense of humor and I actually started warming up to you. Now I look forward to your posts and see the man behind the avatar. I find myself laughing at some of your tongue in cheek comments sometimes, and realize you were being funny when you said it.

The bottom line is, you have a lot to offer this forum and I find your comments are seated in actual hands on experience. You are by no means a "poser", whatever the hell that is anyway. :p Every post I see you doing is an attempt to help someone solve a problem and that to me is what makes a good member. I think the forum would be somewhat diminished without your presence and the knowledge you so freely give to others.

So knock off the s*** and get back to helping us out with our problems. We need people like you on here.

    Don

  28. So some self-inflated blowhard is calling you names? I didn't see you running for public office needing their approval. As a public forum you will get all types here and can't let just one person get to you. There are way more people here who value and enjoy your posts than not and that alone is your price of admission. Post away ******...

We all have been on our *** at some point...wether it was self induced or beyond/out of our control
We are all just trying to live to fight another day..

I dont think a person should leave here cause he has to watch his bucks
Does that mean I have to leave cause my typing ****s?

    Some will say yes...some no...who gives a ****!
Look at the big picture...why deni yourself all the freinds you have made because of a couple jaw flappers

What you need to evaluate is why you are taking advice from people with ****ty opinions. The amount of knowledge on this forum is phenomenal, and whether or not members hold an Alliance membership is completely irrelevant as the amount of insight and information they share and the contribution that provides to the overall welfare of the forum. I'm in the same boat that I've been around a while but never had the funds to pony up, and I'll be damned if someone better off financially has any bearing on my willingness to share my thoughts and opinions with a group of like-minded people. I've always enjoyed reading your posts, and I sincerely hope you reconsider. This isn't a country club, and I hope those that judge other members by the size of their wallets take a moment to reevaluate their reason for being here.
