Hi everyone, I wanted to tell all the LA members about a public fab and machine shop I am trying to open. It should be a great place to work on small projects and have all the great fab and machine tools at your disposal. Take a look at my kickstarter page where it explains more about how i'm trying to get this going and what you can do to help. If you have questions please ask them on the kickstarter page as I cant get to the forums as quickly as I would like. 3 questions 1- I donate money - you buy machines - you go belly up who gets the machines? 2- who get's to run the machines - anyone who donates? 3- how are you going to work out the insurance? sounds like a great idea but with a lot of If's Wayne
This is basically what the military does on each base. We have a hobby shop that we can work on cars and they have people there that are supposed to be skilled mechanics. The idea is to have all the tools at your disposal to complete most all type of mechanical work. Everything is cheaper on a base and they still charge $110.00 for every thirty days that your car is continuously there. I think for a day use they charge $3.50 per hour for a lube rack. I'm not sure about all the other stuff. It's a great idea but the three questions do need to be answered before I would think about giving any money.
So somebody who donates $20 bucks is gonna be able to operate machinery which can injur or kill. Would you like to buy some insurance? I got a guy...
So you're saying that a person who only donates $20 is somehow not skilled or able to be taught enough to operate a deadly machine? By the way a person who donates $20 bucks won't be able to operate any machine unless he ponies up a few more dollars for a membership.
Yep. You're correct. That's exactly what I'm saying. There is a direct correlation between being able to donate $20 and not being capable of operating machinery. Why waste your time with cars? You should be a detective...
It's a two sided coin here. on one side it's a good idea but the other side it could F**k up your day real quick. I run the machinery at work and I have a lathe, 2 milling machines, surface grinder, drill press at home and if you think that I would let just anyone run them. your crazy! Good Luck with your idea Wayne
I remember when I first started as a tool and diemaker. One of the first weeks on a mill and the bit grabbed and flew right my my eye. I am sure there will be rules and insurance. I would be interested but already have a mill and late and looking for a cnc
