Australian Slopers anyone?

since Ryan posted a thread about Utes..and as much as I would love to have one in my garage, I would like to see some more Slopers. I would love to find a nice '39 Sloper. any pics guys?

Cool! i helped wreck that one out after that accident , first hotrod i ever layed hands on, wonder what happened to it? i seem to remember it got repaired in the long run.

 

My Friend has a 40 Chevy Sloper. Looks like it's going to turn out to be nice ride.

Never been a 40 sloper before or since that looked as good as that one, it was perfect.

 

Brandon, nope, no 49-51 Mercs as they were not sold in Oz, apart from apparently a couple of imported 4drs, back in the day........Slopers were as follows.........35-40 Chev, Pontiac 35-40, Olds 35-40, Buick 36-38, Vauxhall 1938, Ford 1939 & 1940, Dodge & DeSoto 1937/38(tho' the mopars were more of a "'hunchback" sloper as they had a definate hump). Chev, Poncho & Olds are all listed in Nrom Darwins History Of Holden Since 1917 Book as also doing them in 1941 but I have seen this mentioned somewhere as leftover 1940's that were 1st registered in that year.
Two books that the Oz car enthusiast should have are Norm Darwin's "The History Of Holden Since 1917" and his "The History of Ford in Australia". Both were published by Eddie Ford in both hard & soft cover. Eddie is the publisher of Australia's Restored Cars Magazine.
The Holden book is supposedly out of print however Eddie Ford can be contacted on 61-3-5476 2212 as the Ford history books are still listed in the current issue of Restored Cars magazine and Eddie may have some Holden copies also.

 

I like this thread.I have never seen one of the slopers before. I did not know what they were. They look just enough different from the US version to stand out. I like them.

 

1935 Olds Sloper, very rare even in Australia.

This was a good buy in 2018 they pop up occasionally for sale and dont command a whole lot of money

Are there any advantages in a sloper versus a regular sedan?

Rarity and they were the only two door bodies in Australia.

 

In AU, a regular sedan had 4 doors. There was no regular two door or 'sloper' option.
BTW Ford's designation was Coupe Sedan. 'Sloper' is slang.
